Oneworld Debuts New Lounge in Amsterdam Schiphol

As seen on the FlyerTalk forums, FlyerTalker SleepySynapse was one of the first to visit the new oneworld lounge after it opened on Wednesday, February 21, 2024.

“The New Lounge Has Certainly Been Worth the Wait”

With a capacity of 118, the new space at Shiphol is open to flyers aboard any oneworld member airline on a first class or business class ticket, as well as Sapphire Tier or Emerald Tier oneworld elites. The lounge is only the second alliance branded space to open in the world, with the first opening weeks before at Seoul Incheon Airport (ICN).

Located in the non-Shengen departure area between the D and E gates, the space features a buffet, full-service bar, specialty coffee, and a private shower facility. FlyerTalker SleepySynapse was one of the first to visit the space, giving a detailed review of the lounge.

According to the FlyerTalker, the horseshoe-shaped bar is the refreshment center, offering both hard drinks and specialty coffees. The bar offers beer, mixed spirits, five wine selections and a champagne option. While the lounge promises signature cocktails, none were available on opening day.

The buffet area is constantly rotating based on when flights are departing. In the morning, a traditional British breakfast was available featuring beaks, grilled tomatoes, bacon, and scrambled eggs. By 10:30 a.m., the menu rotated to Asian flavors in anticipation of Cathay Pacific flyers. With a Qatar Airways flight departing midday, the buffet once again rotated to Middle Eastern cuisine.

SleepySynapse describes the working area as well lit, with each workspace featuring 11 seats, European socket power outlets, along with powered USB-A and USB-C plugs. Internet access was also adequate, sharing power with a lounge next door.

The remainder of the lounge is dedicated to casual seating spaces, ranging from armchairs with individual tables, couches, and two rows of seats either facing the windows, or facing a mood-lit “feature wall.” The wall changes color as the day progresses.

“Although there are a wide variety of seating options not all were as instantly-comfortable as they should be,” SleepySynapse writes. “However the addition of some cushions would easily bring this up to the quality of the rest of the lounge, and add a little more warmth.”

Describing it as a “design masterpiece,” SleepySynapse praises the design of the workspaces and the availability of outlets at nearly every seat. While the space is small, it definitely left an impression on our FlyerTalker.

“While not necessarily revolutionary in terms of the space, the new lounge has certainly been worth the wait,” SleepySynapse closes the review.
