New Baggage Allowance Limits for Emirates Economy

If you like to fly Emirates, be prepared: Starting February 4, some economy tickets will have less of a weight allowance for baggage; the airline says that this is due to a thorough review of customer feedback and customer travel preferences throughout the four different economy class ticket fare categories.

Emirates travelers in the Special and Saver categories of economy class, be prepared to have your baggage allowance change. Starting February 4, flyers in those categories will see their luggage weight allowance decrease by 5 kg—down to 15 from 20 for Special, and down to 25 from 30 for the Saver category. The new weight limits will apply to almost all the routes, excluding flights to the Americas and to Africa. Flex and Flex Plus ticket categories will retain the current weight allowance, as will Business Class and First Class.

“After a careful review of customer feedback and their travel preferences, Emirates can confirm that we will be updating our standard free baggage allowance for Economy Class travel, effective for bookings made on or after 4th February 2019,” the airline said in a statement, reported by Gulf News. “This adjustment enables Emirates to offer our customers more flexibility to select the fare and associated benefits that best meet their travel needs.”

Some economy passengers will still get to keep their higher baggage weight limits, including the two other economy fare levels and some members of the loyalty program.

“Depending on the choice of fare type, Emirates’ economy-class passengers can still enjoy up to 35 kilos, or two pieces of 23 kilos, of free baggage allowance,” the spokesperson told Gulf News.
