AS to permit one-way international partner awards

Hey all, forgive me if this has already been discussed (I did a search but didn't come up with much). I've been struggling with booking an Awards flight to Europe using AS miles, and I called the booking line today to check on some things.

I happened to mention that the requirement for round-trip on international awards was making my life difficult, and the agent let me know that starting about March 17th, they will be allowing one-way international partner awards to be booked.

Hope that helps someone!

Update... the agent (who had just completed his training) did confirm that it would be 1/2 miles for one-way and the starting date is supposed to be March 17th.

I assume this is on partners that allow one-way awards in the first place? That would exclude DL for instance.

Yes, I think you're right. I'm not interested in DL in this case so I wasn't paying much attention to that but he did mention something along those lines.

Half price, one way awards would be a great addition. ^

So like AA and CX? If so, woo hoo- you could piece together some interesting RTW itineraries.

There's some mention of it in the Emirates thread. I heard late 2013. I'm hoping to combine UA and AS miles for one heck of a trip.

Or in my case, a TATL open-jaw with two gateway stopovers...

IIRC, EK does not allow one-way awards at saver.

If they allowed a partner to pull it off, though, that would be cool...

Yes, but DL will permit a RT award with only one direction on DL, no?

AS to permit one-way international partner awards

DL will still require round trip pricing whether you book one way or round trip. However, the round trip won't have to be all on DL. One could book the outbound on AA and return on DL for a single round trip rate.

I also called the Partners desk a couple days ago and the same thing was mentioned to me. The rep said she hadn't completed her training yet, but that it would be rolled out gradually (i.e. not all partners would be available at once).

Regardless, this is a welcome and long-overdue change to the AS program. Finally a positive 'enhancement'!

The following comment was posted on a boarding area blog post:

I just found out from AS that the one-way awards being introduced in March is only for AA and DL. In April the will introduce one-way awards for BA, KLM and AF. For the other carriers, there is not timetable set.
