Flight Changes
Many changes have been made due to Etihad schedule changes. In some cases, connecting flights are being swapped to nonstops. Some have been able to get this changed back by calling Etihad, others have not. You may have to repeat call / HUCA to get it switched back.

Update 12/28/14: Etihad will honor the fare per Forbes article.

Not having any food options in the preclearance area is ridiculous considering we have to dump all our liquids on the way in. It also lacks power outlets anywhere.
I too the same Jetihad flight from AUH back to JFK (connecting from JNB.)

I too found the questioning by the immigration officer odd after going through the GE kiosks. I remember when I cleared the pre clearance station in Dublin I was shown on a monitor a picture of my suitcase and asked to confirm it was mine; this didn't happen at AUH.

My laptop was opened and powered up, as you mentioned, but they didn't seem concerned with my phones, Kindle, and iPad.

However, after pre clearance there was a small stand selling coffee, juices, sandwiches, and pastries, and to the left of that there was a half-round table with electric outlets. They accepted AED and USD, and there was a USD dispensing ATM in the gate area as well. (I was the first customer of the day and they couldn't break my $20 for a $3 bottle of juice so I had to charge it.) Also downstairs, next to the restrooms were drinking fountains where I filled up both of my empty bottles. I was expecting not to be able to take them on the plane (like some airports in Asia where you're searched for liquids walking down the jetway) but there weren't any issues at all.

I thought I took a picture of the snack stand but I guess I only have the ATM...

Just returned from JFK - AUH - JNB. Triple miles posted already. As a datapoint, I registered for both double and triple mile promotions.

Earned a ton of miles on this one (7 passengers). Best sale ever!

nice. the triple miles posted for me a week or so after flying, but the base miles were at 0.25 instead of 0.5 so I've been fighting with them to get it corrected. glad to hear things worked out for you without the hassle!

UPDATE: Well, I called in and they said they'd look into the E class snafu and to e-mail the retrocredit address (I used the Etihad gold one instead, figuring it might get faster service) for the missing SEZ-AUH, which I did,

Re-checked the account today and the SEZ-AUH-JFK return is now fully credited, though that was a U class and not an E class.

Looks like they did an improvised solution for the E class problem, as for the outbound I now see new lines labeled "EY flight economy class miles" crediting 25% RDMs, so if you add that to the previous posting you get 50% RDMs for the flight, as promised.

The problem with doing it that way is that it does not adjust either the silver tier bonus or the triple miles offer upward, both of which are still based on 25%. Maybe they could even claim that keeping the retroactivity doesn't apply to the bonus offers, even though bonuses I got before 7/8 were based on 50% rather than 25%.

So, as it stands, the $616 RT ticket from JFK to the Seychelles bought last 12/25 has earned 26,583 RDMs and would get 6,645 more if bonuses on the JFK-AUH-SEZ were applied to 50% EQMs rather than 25% EQMs. Dunno if it's a fight I should pursue.

Overall for the 3 tickets I bought on 12/25 (IAD-MNL-IAD, ORD-AUH-ORD, JFK-SEZ-JFK) I've gotten gold status + 66,754 posted RDMs which I hope to use on AA on RTs to deep South America and Alaska (though would have to be booked at lowest off-peak (not a slamdunk) and the miles do expire). Total for the 3 EY tickets was $1,168.

I hate the idea of the 25% being in effect if there's another mistake fare, but maybe there's a chance to just use the lounge access with the status and credit to AA.

Flying JFK-AUH-BOM tomorrow

Bid on the upgrade with the minimum amount, got denied. Will try again at the airport tomorrow - any tips for getting it?

Just thought I would share my experience so far here. Flew Jetihad JFK to AUH back on the 9th Oct. Was scheduled to leave today AUH to JFK EY 101 10:30am. At 10:50am they announced we were on a 15 minute delay. At 11:40am they escorted us to the business lounge and told that it would be 30 more minutes before we would have an answer about what was going on. At 12pm we were told our flight had been cancelled due to technical difficulties and that they would have us on a flight to JFK at 9:35pm.
On the bright side, we only had to go through customs three times and were told we will still have to go through customs again once we arrive into JFK (please read my sarcasm).
For the time being all US passport holders are being accommodated at the Premier Inn across the street and passport holders of other nationalities are all in the Premium Lounge Terminal 3. We have been told they are trying to repair the same Jetihad flight and it should be fixed and operational to take us all at 9:35pm. Wish me luck!
Did I mention the flight only has 150 people. Is this normal? At least this is what I was told by two staff members. Some of the other flyers have opted to be transferred onto a flight leaving earlier to LHR to get to their final destinations but we weren't lucky. That flight was full by the time we reached to the head of the line. No upgrades being given, even if you're willing to pay. But from what I've read Jetihad may not be worth the upgrade anyway.

Decided to say "**ck that" to my last AUH-JFK segment and got lucky enough to get 2 Business Studio seats on the direct 787 to IAD (and subsequently all the way back home in Carolina on the same award).

Any problems people see by me not flying the last segment? Obviously I'll have to carry my bags on so I don't see much of an issue. I believe I'll get my segments on the way there credited, but I don't feel great about getting just my JNB-AUH credited considering I'm purposely skipping the last segment (AUH-JFK).

Thoughts?

If there are seats, they'll sell it to you but in my experience the prices at check in were a lot higher than if you had bid.

I've found it inconsistent on whether or not there are empty Y seats across the pond, with next to none 2/3 of the time and enough for your own row maybe 1/3. Seems like the Etihad crowds have the "Kettles" problem that's complained about with July-August-Christmas travel in the U.S. year round, i.e. very inexperienced travelers doing un-smart things, often unknowingly. If you're sitting near the back, try to notice what a mess the plane can be after a long flight...wouldn't want to clean that. J must be a lot better by default, but it depends on how much extra they want.

Aside from mistake fares and other things, they seem to be doing a good business not only for U.S.-Middle East, but especially U.S.-India, as they go from the biggest U.S. cities to just about any place of size in India with just the AUH connection and not a lot of out-of-the-way flying.

Middle Eastern racism at work. This is why I avoid all ME3 carriers.

Am I mistaken in thinking that French taxes/fees collected originally for connecting flights through CDG and later involuntarily rerouted on the JFK-AUH nonstop are to be refunded? Amounts to about 80 $ roundtrip.

Just got denied for AA miles for my JFK-AUH flight. (Still waiting on AUH-JNB and AUH-JFK. Oddly, leeg 3 of 4 JNB-AUH posted almost immediately.)

Any advice of how to escalate this?

Thank you!!

I thought with AA they don't give credit for U.S.-AUH flights, only for continuing flights from AUH to somewhere else. Maybe it depends on service class and got caught up in the program changes mid-year (in which case it could depend on when it was ticketed), but I remember for an IAD-AUH-MNL taken before the changes I was looking at AA credit only for AUH-MNL-AUH and no EQMs. I went the EY guest route, which has come out OK thanks to the triple-miles promos mitigating the skimpy RDM credits. Will see when I try to redeem.
