I stayed at the HWV 5/23-29 (ALON) and found little had changed from my stay a year earlier. I requested, and got, the same Palace Tower room I had previously on the 7th floor with HH Gold Lounge access. I took
www.speedishuttle.com to and from the airport and stayed in the resort area the entire trip. Some will be disappointed to hear that the hotel is phasing out the Kohala Spa products that were placed in the room daily. It appears they are only a "for sale" item now.
I still feel the best food value within HWV walking distance is the Beach Grill at the Beach Golf Course. It is open for lunch and dinner. On the resort itself, the most casual dining is at the Boat Landing Pavilion, just outside the Ocean Tower. As also previously stated, the Kings Shops just off the hotel property, offer numerous alternatives for dining and shopping. I will miss the 100K ALON award and the transfer of UA miles to HH points; as I felt this was an excellent value. And yes, I did see Elvis the barracuda in hotel's waterway.
