I highly recommend the Hacienda Guest Lodge. Arrive before 8:30PM, which is also when the restaurant closes its doors. Highway 1 is 55 minutes away via the scenic and very winding Nacimiento Road.
For summer weekends, reserve far ahead or check for cancellations at the last minute.
This place is the best getaway deal I know of, and that's saying something. You are guaranteed to see quail and rabbits and perhaps other wildlife.
