Amankora, Amanbagh

Amankora,
Stayed at lodges in Paro, Timphu, and Punakha. Service and accomidations where all very similar with Punakha lodge being our favorite. It was the winter residence of one of the queens of Bhutan and has been converted for the use of Amankora guest. There are eight suites with the farm house being used for dining, lounging, internet access. The old kitchen which is a seperate building is for more lounging and acts as the entrence to the spa. The weather here was the most mild and the rice terreces reminded me of Amandari's location with local farmers using the land right up against the lodge. You arrive via a suspension bridge where you are given a pray flag to hang from the bridge before you are taken on a golf cart for the ride to the lodge on a narrow road through the local farms. The rooms had both A/C and heat. The monsoon shower where great! You could have a small party in them. The trips between lodges where breath taking but very long and you arrive tired at each lodge so what Amankora provides is great service, food which really was very impresive for such remote locations, and wonderful rooms. They are all alike at each lodge with a few difference. In Timphu the shower has no door and the only interior door is for the toilet. In Punakha there is A/C as it is warm there. The Paro lodge is the largest and has the most complete spa. There are baths in the spa where large bolders are rolled down a chute form a oven that has heated the rocks to a glowing red color. There is a divider between your area of the tub and the rocks so you don't get hit with a hot bolder. The Paro lodge is also where you will hike to the Tigers Nest which is Bhutans most popular hike.
