What is your Priority Club status?
Platinum--Amb

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard king, and rec'd a executive king room

How are the rooms?
Very nice, 2 rooms (living area and sleeping area). The sleeping side of the wall had a 42" plasma, and the living room had sofa , chair and fridge and microvace.

How is the exec. lounge?
not available.

What was good and what was bad?
Right outside the front door you step across the street and you are on the property of the Seneca Niagara Casino. New hotel. Starbucks attached to the hotel. Great product overral.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Excellent value, 110's for Sun-Thurs, slightly more on Fri/Sat. Prices drop even further as the winter approaches (Niagara falls is more a summer town, as far as prices go)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a std. King, recieved a corner king on the executive floor.

How are the rooms?
Very nice. The hotel was recently renovated. Definitely one of the nicer CP's I have stayed in. The bathrooms were a bit small (old facility), but the room size more than made up for it. Floor to ceiling windows with views of downtown Pensacola and the ocean.

How is the exec. lounge?
Couldn't tell you because it was locked up. When I asked the front desk, they said that it permanently closed after the renovation but there were two bars in the lobby....

What was good and what was bad?
As I said before, the hotel had recently been renovated. The room was very nice, probably the nicest (and newest) room I have stayed in for the money. We have a pretty good corp. rate but even the "Best Available" is somewhere around $125/night. Flat screen LCD tv's too. Most of the rooms have some sort of view of the ocean.

The exec. lounge closing for good was a bit disappointing. They actually have two bars in the lobby, one small and one a bit larger. I think the smaller bar is used to service guests actually wanting a drink while sitting in the lobby. The other bar is more of a sports bar with tv's and a pool table. The bathrooms could have been larger.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value

No

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a club King, got offered no upgrade as I was told "You already have a nice room". I was checking in about 1am after a delayed flight from Bangkok.

How are the rooms?
OK, but nothing special. Smallish bath with shower over that has to be initially turned on while standing in the bath as there is a xfixed glass screen which stopped me reaching round to adjust the shower.

How is the exec. lounge?
OK, again. I had a bit of a struggle to find someone who'd let me order an omelette, no offer of service - just pointed to the buffet. It was too busy for the number of staff there.

What was good and what was bad?

I was disappointed, I've stayed there before and thought it was great but this time no. I think, in particular because of the price. My PA booked me in on a 14 day advance rate which after adding on 10% service charge and 7% VAT actually worked out to over US$400 a night. It's a busy time in HK, but....

...also when I dived into the bar, to get a restorative beer, it was packed with people who seemed to be either smokers or whores; most of them both. No particular moral objections but I would have liked the option of somewhere else to go.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?

Not at that rate, I'm now in the IC-GS at considerably less and upgraded to a full suite. (see forthcoming RA report)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
For the most part

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a king leisure received a king leisure. Asked about upgrade to suites as this hotel definitely has some but none given. Told "you have a great room already"

How are the rooms?
Very nice. The hotel is brand new and has been open only 5 days. I usually stay at the Staybridge next door and that's where I'll be going back to for now. Excellent King bed, great work area and lounge chair. Very large bathroom. Entire room fitted with "Stay Smart" bath towels and bedding...very nice.

How is the exec. lounge?
n/a, it's a HIX

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
  • Brand new hotel, beautiful for a HIX
  • 32" LCDs in every room
  • Full Stay Smart bedding and bath just as on website
  • Fast, free internet - wired or wireless

Bad:
  • For those on GSA rates (as I am) their's is higher than the Per Diem
  • While the website said "expanded HIX breakfast" it wasn't. Nothing hot besides Cinnamon Rolls
  • No upgrade given even though the hotel is brand new and I heard the agent say they had 64 rooms available. And I know they had suites as I checked in my room. Way to set an impression for a Plat first time staying.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Decent value at $89. I may return in the future. IMHO they are not yet ready as one would kind of expect for a new hotel. It took the desk agent 10 minutes to check me in and in two stops at the desk I heard agents tell customers on the phone that they didn't know how to answer their question.

How is the exec. lounge?
Nice, located on the 16th floor, but closed on Sat & Sun. On this days you can go breakfast in the restaurant.

What was good and what was bad?
the complementary shuttle to the airport and as a platinum member I received free internet.

No

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room, got an Executive Room.

How are the rooms?
Grubby, old, badly in need of a refurb. But they do have brand new LCD TVs!

How is the exec. lounge?
There is none.

What was good and what was bad?
+ There was a fruit basket, water and fruit juice in our room on arrival.
+ It was a close stroll to La Tupina (possibly the best restaurant in the area)

- The room was horribly in need of a refurb
- The Bathroom had no window
- The WC was in a small cupboard
- Towels and bathmat were dirty

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Not good value for the cash I paid. I'd go to any other hotel if I return to Bordeaux

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room on points break rate, got a large Club Room with lounge access.

How are the rooms?
Our was oddly shaped with a King Bed and a separate seating area with a small sofa, desk and TV. The bathroom was fine but the shower screen was woefully inadeqate leadign to a soggy bathroom each time the shower was used!

How is the exec. lounge?
Okay. nice seating and a nice view into the old courtyard of the hotel. The evening drink selection was okay, but only a few cans of beer which soon disappeared. The breakfast was hit and miss - again when anythign ran out it was not replaced so not great for late risers on holiday. Oh and the only coffee available is de-caf...

What was good and what was bad?
+ The staff are fantastic - friendly, helpful and they made the hotel memorable
+ Great upgrade for a points stay
+ The most central location in town

- Not the best Club Lounge (but it was free)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Amazing value for a Points Break stay

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a standard room, got an Executive Room.

How are the rooms?
Ours was big, two single beds pushed together as a double, very high ceilings lots of double windows openign onto a courtyard. The bathroom was off the entrace area but the WC was in a separate room off the far end of the bedroom - quite strange!

How is the exec. lounge?
There is none.

What was good and what was bad?
+ There was water and fruit juice in our room on arrival.
+ Very good central location, also very close to the station for our early mornign train
+ Great character to the building

- The hotel could do with a refurb as it is a bit shabby. With some money spent on it this could be a really great property with heaps of character.
- One of the bathrobes in our room was hrribly stained (I'll say no more on this...)

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good value for me as this was a Points Break stay, not sure if I'd return unless it gets a refurb.

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?

Not really. I booked this hotel because of all the praise it gets on on Tripadvisor and was kind of disappointed.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked Executive King, no upgrade received

How are the rooms?

The rooms are ok, but nothing special. Weird shower/bathtub combination which gives you a lot of room to shower but too little space to soak in the tub.

How is the exec. lounge?

Ok, breakfast is served but selection is very limited compared to the main restaurant. Cocktail hour has a nice selection of snacks, softdrinks, tea and coffee, beer and wine but they don't serve any cocktails

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
+ executive club benefits include 6 softdrinks from the minibar per day, unlimited supply of softdrinks, beer, tea and coffee in the executive lounge, breakfast and also snacks during cocktail hour, 4 pieces of laundry per day, free broadband internet, free local calls and fax.
+ some employees go the extra mile to make things possible ^

Bad:
- no upgrade!
- some employees can be very rude and unfriendly

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
No, twice as expensive as other HIs in Beijing that offer exactly the same product and provide a good upgrade to PC platinum members on top of that.

Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a regular room, was upgraded to a superior room and got a welcome bowl of fruit.

How are the rooms?
Larger than the regular room, but still not all that big.

How is the exec. lounge?
There is none

What was good and what was bad?
We stayed 2 nights out of three-the second night we were in Versailles. The first night there was no upgrade. For a business/tourist class hotel, I was surprised at the lack of english skills. I didn't expect much of course as we were in France after all, but even basic requests were met with glazed over eyes! The first night we did have a small corner room on the scond floor that looked over the Place de la Republique, which was a nice view. Very close to metro-but what isn't in Paris-and there was a hop on hop off tour stop very close to the hotel with L'Opentour. Excellent location, decent rooms, so-so service.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good enough value. Yeah, I would go back.

Yes-only because we were very tired.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a regular room, no upgrade.

How are the rooms?
A decent size-low ceiling and doorway.

How is the exec. lounge?
There is none

What was good and what was bad?
Breakfast was included, it was decent. Location of the hotel was great-easy to get to. Hotel was clean, but decor was quite dated. Odd layout for the hotel-lots and lots of doors. I went to grab a coffee for my wife in the morning from the breakfast room, and had to open 7 doors on the way to the room (and 7 more on the way back with 2 coffees in my hand.). It's a HiEx so the bar was set pretty low, clean with a free breakfast was about all you could ask for I guess.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Good enough value. Would go back in a pinch if I didn't have enough points/cash for a better place.

Were you happy with the hotel/stay?

Not really. Then again, it was booked as a "matress run" at £27 a night. It's good that it's only a few miles from home though.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked 1 Single bed room, that's what I got.

How are the rooms?

The room I got was nasty. Worst I have ever seen. TINY bathroom, small TV, 1 cup. HIX rooms are bigger and nicer.

How is the exec. lounge?

NA

What was good and what was bad?

Good:
Price was good.
Free parking

Bad:
No upgrade.
No recognition of Plat status whatsoever.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Would I STAY there? No! Never! Will I book it again for 4x points at a cheap rate.. Yes. That's all though.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a king, upgraded to a suite with jacuzzi

How are the rooms?
Larger than average for HIX, all newer rooms that have been well designed

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
Decent breakfast, pleasant staff, and a great location close to everything in the city and close to major exits for return travel. The hotel is very new, so no wear is apparent anywhere and all the rooms are very quiet.

As a bonus, the hotel is mere steps away from a Tim Horton's. ^

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Yes - only the Ramada offers serious competition in this market and the HIX does the job better

Yes - it's the only decent accommodation for miles around

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked a regular room, no upgrade

How are the rooms?
Slightly smaller than average, acceptably maintained, staff were pleasant

How is the exec. lounge?
N/A

What was good and what was bad?
GOOD - Free breakfast for plats was a nice touch and the hotel is the best option (until Jasper) for several hours after you leave Edmonton. (I'd welcome any other recommendations!)

BAD - being located in the middle of an extreme boomtown means that crews occupy most of the rooms here and everywhere else. This keeps prices much higher than you'd expect in such a small place in the offseason, as well as keeping capacity tight. Noise can also be an issue. The hotel is more in the older HI style and is showing its age in the common areas.

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
So-so value, but given limited options, I'd return.

About average for HIX, well maintained, newer (built in the past 5 years)

How is the exec. lounge?

What was good and what was bad?
GOOD - breakfast items were refreshed regularly, parking is great, the rooms were well-kept, location is good if you're headed North or West during the stay.

BAD - no Plat recognition. hotel is remote from downtown and south business areas

Value for $ or Priority Club Points? Would you return?
Ok value and much better than the regular HI in Guelph. As this is a regular stop for me, I'm looking forward to the arrival of Delta, Marriott, and the Staybridge banner in the next year. The boom in the area has attracted more brands, which should improve quality and decrease price.
