Now, has anyone who frequents CLE ever actually seen a NW 747 diverted to CLE?
Exactly... which is why the folks at CLE were fighting NWA... but, apparently NWA won... as usual. I think the location of the new FIS will likely depend on where they decide to expand the check-in and baggage claim areas for CO. If they build the extension in the area between C and D, I have no idea where they'd put the FIS without relocating NWA. All I can think of is perhaps a retro-fit of D? But that makes little sense to me.
I guess time will tell!

My sources confirm it was NWA, too. NWA insisted on maintaining at least one gate capable of handling a 747 (just in case of a diversion from DTW). None of the A gates (except perhaps A14, which they can't have) could handle a 747.

Yes, there have been a variety of NW widebodies here due to diversions or charters. It is my understanding that there are other issues at play, but my instincts tell me that they will be worked out somehow.

I've seen a NW 742 (probably for the brownies) in august when I was in CLE.
I don't think they boarded from the terminal though.
I'd think CO could allow it as a "shared" gate, so NW could be free to use it if they had to, and it would have the convenient FIS facility attached...
It would be cool if they used the outer gates on the circular part of the terminal for the int'l flights.... that section is much more open... they could build the PC up as a 2 floor deal.

Why do charters need a gate? Just drive the team bus next to the plane and board using a staircase.

This is just gamesmanship. NW knows how much CO wants the gates, so NW is going to negotiate to get as much as they can for them. The widebody gates can clearly be rectified with one of the common use customs gates in A, so we will see what happens.

Wonder if the new gates will be exclusively for CO's use or common use gates like A11 & A14 now? Will those 2 gates and the FIS on Concourse A be retained for other airline's use?

CO has decided to cancel CLE-LAN before it even started. Wonder what other CLE expansion plans will change...

An old thread I wanted to get find out the status of.
Has CO put this plan on hold, or canceled it all together? Do you expect them to slowly build the hub back up once the economy starts to improve (and with oil prices down)?
What destinations have they cut? How are the international routes doing?
What impact with CO's arrival into the Star Alliance have on the Cleveland hub? Do you see potential non-stop service from CO or LH to a major hub like Frankfurt?
An article from last summer: http://blog.cleveland.com/business/2...ntinental.html

I've viewed this thread below a couple of times.

Doesn't sound like the locals have any new info to provide. Mostly the same OT chatter about CLE that we waste our time with here.
