Thanks for an interesting trip report.

Many Indonesians I know say they avoid this airline out of CGK/SIN/CGK route because they say the staff tend to be rude and patronising to them. I'd guess they equate Indonesians with migrant workers and migrant workers with less 'deserving' passengers.

Interesting. There were Indonesian crew members on both flights, and I even seem to vaguely recall some announcements in Indonesian. I did notice that the "migrant worker" types were, on both flights, mostly segregated to the rear part of economy, while moneyed Indonesians and non-Indonesians were all up in the front half. Qatar doesn't do SQ-style "smile until your makeup cracks" service, but the way the crew treated everybody seemed pretty much the same. However, they did announce that there would be a crew change at SIN, so pax on SIN-CGK/CGK-SIN would have gotten a different set.

Compare this with my previous experience flying Etihad from Delhi, where Etihad didn't bother to announce or put up any material at all in Hindi, despite the fact that most of the migrant worker pax obviously didn't speak English or Arabic. And there the solitary Indian stewardess was pretty openly contemptuous of "clueless" pax, but then again, I suspect most of us would be the same after doing her job day in, day out...

This settles it, now that I've re-qualified for EK Gold I just have to try out QR

Should we enable our FT 'picture' settings for future reports from each of you? I can only offer Virgin FAs from this end. [in-cabin pics, that is...]

My flights on QR are a few months away but I'd be interested to see what (and who) is on the DOH-SIN flights.
