WordPerfect XP4 Upgrade
I'm a die hard WP user on WP12. XP4 was released in May and before I upgrade I was checking to see the experiences (if any) people have had with that version of the product.

no...I know WP is used a lot in the legal world.
I"m a consultant who has authored some books....for large docs, nothing beats WP (in my opinon)

Even more OT, but lawyers are moving away from WP, particularly in larger firms. And the trickle-down effect is catching up with some of the smaller firms and sole proprietors, too. There are still things that WP is much better at, particularly for litigators, but Word is catching up (particularly the 2007 edition) and client interoperability demands are also pushing the migration from WP to Word. I've converted several thousand seats over the years at firms both large and small. New installations of WP are getting fewer and fewer within legal.

I have both WP and Word on my machine. I've been a die hard WordPerfect junkie, but have been using Word almost consistently for the last year. I had a seventy page document I had to crank out in a three day stint and went back to WordPerfect for this job. Boy how I miss her.

I've been using XP3 for six months. I don't remember any transition problems from WP12. I kept WP12 installed for a while too, but I don't think I every reverted.
(I started with WordPerfect with Dos 3.0, maybe WP 3 also?, and over the years my tests of Word have made me not want to switch. (We had a WordPerfect Users Group <smile>.) Sharing documents and converting can be a nuisance, but most of my word processing is for my own use.)

Still am.
Not only for legal stuff (I don't play a lawyer even on tv), but the graphics-handling capability is just incredibly easier and more powerful.
Still using WP 10 on XP Pro SP2

I started with DOS WordPerfect and still haven't gotten used to working to working without reveal codes. The whole concept of hiding formatting codes in the paragraph marker and then hiding the paragraph marker by default is mind boggling for me.
WordPerfect should still be #1 except Novell killed it with help from Microsoft.

Since we veered a bit off topic.
I only go back to V4.0 on DOS however I did implement WordPerfect for UNIX
in the late 80's....useful but not nearly as powerful as the DOS version.

I've been a die-hard user since WP 5 for DOS, and have had WP X4 for several months.
Things that are new in the latest edition:
Corel WP Lightning - It's basically a clipboard that saves notes in WP or Word format.
In terms of X4, the biggest legal-side change is the redaction feature. I don't play with that much, but those who I've heard have say it works fairly well.
The metadata removal function works well. The equivalent Word feature is in Word 2007, but not in 2003 and earlier unless you download a plugin.
Most of the changes were to PDF. Editing PDF's are still hit or miss in my experience.
File format remains the same as it has forever... so no problems there. Will you find much of a difference between 12 and X4? Depends on how much you use PDF's. Printing to PDF is better in X4 than in previous versions - X4 finally adds some basic accessibility features.
Here's Corel's page on what's new.
You'll also find a wonderful WP community (if you haven't already) at wpuniverse.com.

I can't stand Word. I don't see how anyone can live without reveal codes, it just makes it so much easier to find stray codes.
It seems to me that Word Perfect was written by writers of documents, Word was written by computer programmers.
I started with a program called Select on a Xerox CPM machine. I also worked with Appleworks for the Apple IIe at home for years. I even played with Wordstar. Started with WP for DOS and still use it.
There are things I can figure out how to do in WP I have no idea how to do in Word.
