MOVED TO HILTON JAN 15 2009: Bora Bora Nui Resort [Master Thread]
This hotel is said to accept reservations for arrival on or after August 15, 2002. But the Starwood website in Tahiti: http://www.sheratonsintahiti.com/bor...sentation1.htm still suggests it would open in July 2002.
So is it that the August 15 date is been put there as the latest possible opening time as of now but the hotel could still be opening before 08/15? Or is that August 15 the official opening date and no reservation before that will be accepted?
Can Starwood Lurker or anyone else who has an answer to please clarify this issue? As we might just miss this property by a day or two if it opens on 08/15 and it would help us in our trip planning knowing whether to include this property or not.

The Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa will open on August 15, 2002. The July date on the web site is dated and was a hopeful, but alas, not realistic projected opening date.

Starwood Lurker,
Do you know if a reward stay will consitute a overwater bungalow? I'm staying in the Moorea resort in June, and when I wanted to do an award stay they told me that my points per night at the highest level, would only get me the garden room. They also told me that they do not accept coupons from May-September, I was attempting to use the Airline 50% off rack rate coupon, but no go for any coupons. Is this correct?
Thanks.

Trying to gain some perspective--where is this propery relative to Hotel Bora Bora and town of Vaitape--is this on a motu near the airport? As food is so expensive in Bora Bora, is there a meal plan? is snorkeling equipment included--if not--how much? What is the drive time (boat time) from the airport? Are bicycles available, if so, is there a charge?

Until all the rates have been loaded, no one can answer your questions except the property itself. In the link that Guava provides above, there is an email address you can use for this purpose.

Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa opens October 1st.
First, all the studio suite bungalows are luxuriously appointed and fully air conditioned, then the difference is as follows as far as upgrades using points is concerned:
750 Starpoints - situated on the beach ocenafront with a private balcony.
1,250 Starpoints - situated on the hillside oceanfront with a private balcony.
14,000 - 20,000 Starpoints (depending upon the season) - overwater horizon view with a private swimming platform.
Hope that helps.

The question was about what an upgrade award would cost, so this is in addition to the free night award.
14,000 - 20,000 Starpoints for the free night award by itself, then add the figures above to it for an upgrade award in advance.

Long awaited trip report for the Bora Bora Nui
I found this on another website. It seems like there were quite a few people looking for this review.

Award Reservations at the Bora Bora Nui Resort & Spa
Yeah, I know. I can't believe I'm having to post this either; however, in the interests of getting the most up to date information out there, you need to know that there has been an additional change in the award reservations at Bora Bora Nui.
The last time I checked - early April, I believe - what I posted in the other thread recently was the gospel truth. Now, it appears that Bora Bora Nui has two levels of suite awards using Starpoints - level one and level two.
Level one is for a Beach Oceanfront Bungalow with a private balcony. The cost for this in Starpoints is 40,000 Starpoints per night during low season. During high season, it is 50,000 Starpoints per night. Fifth night free applies for either season.
Level two is for the Over-the-Water Bungalow that features its own swimming pontoon. The cost for this in Starpoints is 50,000 Starpoints per night during low season. During high season it is 62,500 Starpoints per night. Fifth night free applies for either season.
So, AZ Travels the World is beginning to look like a prophet when he said,
But, we can thank the reservations manager for the property for getting the right information to me so quickly, so I could get it corrected here. No doubt this will confuse/anger a few people and for that I humbly apologize.
Sincerely,

Thanks for the information - this is good news indeed!
2 quick questions:
1) I'm assuming we should contact our Platinum Service Desk to book this newly available, additional award, as it does not appear to be available online. Or should we contact the hotel directly?
2) I hunted on the Bora Bora hotel description for the listing of the months included in the low/high seasons, but was unable to locate it. Do you happen to know which months are in the "low" season?
Thanks!
Mark

ebnozn, I'm not sure if this will be looked upon as good news or bad news. I guess only time will tell concerning that.
As for your direct questions:
1) yes; call the Customer Contact Center nearest you. These awards are not available online.
2) High Season for Bora Bora Nui is July 1 - September 30 in 2003. All other dates should be considered to be Low Season.

The Bora Bora Nui is worth every penny and or point. Already planning a return in the next few months. Great place staff etc, and the OW Bungalows are nice. I need to find time to write a report and comment to SPG about my last stay.
