Arrow Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel [Master thread]

Booked suite that suppose to have jacuzzi.. Now the hotel said they recently renovated them. Anyone have info? It says no view for privacy. Are their suites w/ jacuzzi that have a view

Also any past experiences as prior thread was from last summer...

Room 1206, I think. (I'm going from memory from a year an a half ago, so the detail might not be exact.

Room 1206 and 1207 have been combined into a large SE corner suite with a view of the beach and ocean, and a jacuzzi tub. This is not a deal where they just open the door between two adjoining suites. They've actually opened it up and put in French doors (or would those be freedom doors?)

The hotel has recently undergone renovations, but I think they started from the to down, so 1206 had already been renovated by the time I got there.

Not sure exactly what you are asking, but the jacuzzi tub is in the bathroom of one of the former two suites, and as such, has no outside view. The suite itself however has an excellent view of the beach, ocean, and walkway below.

Sheraton Ocean Front - Virginia Beach

Has anyone stayed there recently? Is the hotel near (walking distance) anything fun? Any feed back at all would help. Thanks

I stayed there a month ago. It is a little old and tired as said before.

I've stayed at better ... I've stayed at worse hotels.

Nothing special except watching the fleet go out. That was cool!

It's on the strip, so it's close to whatever fun VA Beach has to offer. The hotel is standard low-end Sheraton. Rates are reasonable until high-season, when you are definitely not getting what you pay for. I've probably spent 75+ nights here and had no complaints. Very friendly staff.

Stay report - 9/1/07-9/3/07

We have stayed at Sheraton Virginia Beach Oceanfront for the three-day weekend for the Rock-n-Roll Half-Marathon on 9/1/07-9/3/07. Booking it back in June, rates were quoted at $272 plus tax with a 3-night minimum. We were able to get a very helpful Scotland-based SPG rep who did her magic not only to overrule the 3-night minimum but also book it for points.

As others pointed out, the hotel is average but I disagree with it being old and tired. You could definitely see newer furniture, room upgrades, Sweet Sleeper beds and overall sprucing up that I think was done a year or so ago. As Gold, I was given breakfast coupons for each night (without prompting or asking) and a room upgrade to a partial ocean view (room on a side of the building where you could see the ocean from the balcony). The breakfast buffet was fairly average but one could order from the menu too.

The hotel is right on the beach and has two outdoor swimming pools (one with a kiddie area and a bar) and indoor pool with Jacuzzi. Also, you can rent bicycles, roller blades or beach umbrellas/chairs. Being located at 35th street, it is pretty much at the end of the beach strip and is about 2 miles from the 5th street location where the major events were held during the race weekend. Most of the time we walked but also took a trolley or a bus #30 ($1 each way) to get down there, which took a long time in very slow evening traffic.

Staff was very friendly and efficient. However, we had a surprise when we got home. We had two separate reservations - I had paid with points for the first night and my GF paid with points for the second night. What happened is for our convenience the hotel cancelled second reservation, changed the first reservation to two nights and charged me extra 7,000 points. None of this was communicated to us and when presenting two reservations, the front desk assured us that everything was taken care of with points. Two calls to SPG Customer service later, the point withdrawal was rectified. Otherwise, the stay was pleasant (we got to frolic with the dolphins one morning) and I might stay there again if in VA Beach.

Sheraton ocean front resrt in Virginia Beach

Has anyone stayed at this hotel? We are thinking of going there next July 2009. I have read reviews on tripadvisor, and the majority were not favorable. I would like to stay there using starpoints. The hotel will be increased to level 4, on March 4th. Thanks ahead for all replys, Sue

I am currently staying at this hotel on points.

Most guests are families and couples. Direct beach location is a plus and being at the North end of the strip makes it less crowded than more central addresses. The beach is busy but not crowded even on weekends. Three swimming pools, including one with a sloped entrance, are a plus as you can usually find one that is not too busy.

Free parking across the street.

The Links room overlooks the Ocean and is neat for accessing the Web while other members of your party enjoy a drink or plainly the view.

Most rooms (all but two per floor) are ocean view or ocean front. In terms of furniture it rates below average for a Sheraton as some items may look tired. Service is fine. As a Gold member I wasn't upgraded because the place was pretty full but I got my bed preference (2 doubles) by phoning in earlier even though my original confirmation was for 1 king.

If you are looking for a nice beach experience you'll enjoy it.

Nice to hear about that. I will be there for this coming weekend with the free weekend promo. Hard to believe I was able to book the rooms. And will report my experience later.

Updated my stays:

Just had two night there in Sheraton Oceanfront.

Pro: Staff is friendly; as plat, got upgrade to the top floor with Ocean view, free breakfast; Location is nice, right on the beach; Parking is free; 3 swimming pools including 1 indoor swimming pool;

Con: the furniture is a little bid old; Elevator is old; Parking space is tight and limited spots.

Overall it's very good experience.

No more recent, but I can provide my experiences.

I went last Labor Day and will probably go again this Labor Day, so that should tell you something.
  • Great location right on the beach - we had an ocean-view room with a balcony, and the view was really nice
  • The room is a bit on the old side and certainly won't "wow" you, but then again I'm not sure if anything on VAB would except for maybe the Hilton
  • As a Plat, I was given breakfast for the two of us in the restaurant - the restaurant has a great view of the water and the staff was very friendly
  • Relatively nice pool with a good pool-side bar

In summary, this hotel is nothing fancy but for Virginia Beach I think it's great. Free parking right across the street, which is a great asset. Hope that information helps.

I have stayed at every SPG hotel in the VA Beach area many times. I know them all well. Specifically in the City of VB, there are two properties, the Sheraton VB and the Westin VB.

Westin = Not on the beach... about 15 min away in "downtown" VB (downtown = their new planned downtown as VB does not have a real downtown). The westin is beautiful, brand new, and I always get an upgrade to a great corner room. There's a new downtown with good restaurants but you're not at the beach. Oh... and they dont have a club lounge right now.

Sheraton = Location, Location, Location. It's older, musty, has standard rooms, and few frills. However, its right on the beach, the views are great, the free bfast is very good, the pool is decent, the staff is nice. I have taken my family here and been here for business many times. You're not going to be upgraded to a monster suite but the location is what sells it. I stay there often and will stay again.

When I go down for work, I usually look at the weather and decide... do I want a no-frills room on the beach with great bfast, the boardwalk, etc. or a nice room in 10 miles from the beach. Depends on my mood. I like them both.

Just back...

From a 3-night award stay, agree very much with the two posts above overall.

Couple of additional notes for those who haven't been...

1. The hotel did include our 2 kids (ages 4 and 2) in the free breakfast in the restaurant, which was a nice touch.

2. Although this hotel is directly on the beach, it doesn't provide any beach amenities other than towels. There's a concession right on the beach outside the hotel that rents chairs, umbrellas, lounges, etc. You can expect to pay $20-$40 per day for those. You can also walk across the street the other way to one of the many shops and purchase those items for about the same amount, or of course bring your own.

3. There was complimentary valet parking while we were there, and the service was very quick and easy. Not sure if this is a Plat benefit or not, but it is nice.
