UL/QR - MIL-SYD - 2693 EUR / $2875 r/t - Business

SriLankan re-filed their fare from Milan, Italy (MXP / LIN) to Sydney, Australia (SYD) yesterday, so I thought it was worth a mention! This is not the cheapest business class option to fly from Europe to Australia, but for those of you that credit flights to oneworld programs you fly from Europe to Australia at less than 14 cents USD per mile!

Fare marketed by SriLankan and operated by Qatar Airways and SriLankan Airlines - Milan, Italy (MXP) to Sydney, Australia (SYD) via DOH, CMB - 2693 EUR / $2875 USD roundtrip in business. The segment from MXP to DOH is operated by QR and the rest is operated by UL. If QR isn't your cup of tea, you can also fly AF / AZ / LH from MXP or LIN to CDG or FRA, then fly UL CDG/FRA-CMB-SYD (just don't expect oneworld mileage for the SkyTeam / Star Alliance operated flights).

Departures are permitted Jan 5 to Jul 12, 2024 and Aug 17 to Dec 13, 2024. No minimum stay. A stopover up to 15 days is 50 EUR.

MXP-DOH-CMB-SYD Roundtrip
20864 Miles / $2875 USD Roundtrip
13.7797 cents USD per Mile Flown

Crediting to American
20864 Loyalty Points (Cost per LP - 13.7797 cents USD)

Crediting to Alaska
22950 Elite Qualifying / Redeemable Miles (Cost per EQM - 12.5272 cents USD)

Crediting to British Airways
840 Tier Points (Cost per TP - $3.42 USD / 2.75 GBP)

Crediting to Iberia
1900 Elite Points (Cost per Point - $1.51 USD / 1.42 EUR)

Crediting to Qantas
360 Status Credits (Cost per Credit - $7.98 USD / 12.38 AUD - pretty darn poor!!)

Google Flights - This doesn't show up on Google Flights or Momondo or Kayak. Use ITA Matrix to find working dates. There are many of them! Sorry, not trying to be difficult.
Google Flights will only display options where the first/last segment are operated by AZ/AF/LH. Here's an example that includes UL's fifth freedom from CDG to FRA - https://www.google.com/travel/flight...MKigkaqpmesZM8

Book directly with SriLankan using a multi-city search - MXP-CMB / CMB-SYD / SYD-CMB / CMB-MXP - then choose the flights that match the itinerary you found in ITA Matrix. You'll have to choose 4 sets of flights. (example in the spoiler below)

To find these flights in ITA Matrix
Choose Roundtrip

Origin - MIL
Destination - SYD
Routing Codes - <blank>
Extension Codes - f bc=i; -cabin 3; opairlines qr ul
See calendar of lowest fares
Start Date - Choose a starting date
Duration - Set a trip duartion
Stops - No Limit
Extra Stops - No Limit

If you don't care about segments operated by AZ, AF, LH, then set the Routing Code to "UL+" and you don't need to include "opairlines qr ul"

EDIT

There is lots of availability through October 2024. Here's screenshots of ITA's calendar for April through December.

Shame about the TPs. Would be great if some interesting routing was permitted.

personal data points on similar journeys No problem accessing AM in Doha

However, I was denied entry to Al-Safwa even though I offered to pay the additional fee they were advertising.

They told me that in that case it was only possible to enter with a ticket issued by Qatar Airways.

Yeah, there are 6 base fares all at the same price. 3 cover the routings already mentioned, 2 cover connections through Abu Dhabi on EY and there's an additional routing through London, but that would earn even fewer TP's since MXP-LHR/LCY earns fewer TP's than MXP-DOH.
