that's a great deal. I paid twice that when i stayed there over the summer, but that was summer rates.

In late December (28th and 29th) my friend from LA and I will drive from LA to Vegas for 2 nights. We are deciding what hotel to stay at. Remember we are two 21 year olds in vegas. We are able to get Mandalay Bay for $100 a night. I this a good deal? How is this hotel? Also, Luxor, Excaliber, Treasure Island, and Paris are the same prices. Which would you choose and why?

If you guys are 21, try to stay at the Hard Rock. I guarantee you'll like it. The week between X-mas and New Year's is traditionally one of the (slowest, and hence) least expensive times to visit Vegas. I would guess that the Hard Rock would at least be able to match Mandalay's rate. But even if you don't stay there, be sure to go there one night just to check it out. You won't be dissapointed. Just be sure to bring your I.D.s, because no casino checks I.D.s as much as the H.R.!

Yes, try the Hardrock, it should be more appropriate for any 21 years old.

Regarding the Venetian, you might try, but Priceline will have it in the inventory -if ever- only two weeks in advance.

The Hard Rock is certainly full of 21-year-olds, but it's a mile from the Strip, poorly managed, and I wouldn't go near the place unless they made me an offer I couldn't refuse. However, if you're 21 you might like it.

Of the hotels your mentioned, Venetian and Mandalay Bay are head and shoulders above the others. Paris, Luxor, and Treasure Island are a notch below, and Excalibur is like a 4008-room Day's Inn.

Totally agre with Quiet Lion. You can go visit the Hard Rock, but it's much nicer staying at the Mandalay Bay. We saw lots of young people when we were there. They have a pseudo beach that's really nice.

I think $100 for Mandalay Bay for your dates is a very good deal given the close proximity to New Year's. In terms of quality, I'd agree with the others that the two top choices of those you mentioned would be MB and the Venetian. Most 21 year olds would probably prefer MB, as it's the hipper of the two.

If you were going during pool season, I would definately recommend staying at Hard Rock, if for no other reason than it would give you access to their pool scene. I needn't go into the details of what you'd find there, just trust me, it's *hot* <g>. Save Hard Rock for your next trip in warmer weather.

BTW if you stay at MB, their wave pool and lazy river won't be open then, although one smaller pool will be.

MBay has the best 'scene' of all you listed. It's not even close of the 5 you listed.

Another place to consider is the Palms. Lots of young hotties there.

As a point of reference, I'm just a few years older than you.

This may not be as bad as you think. Analyst believe that MGM-Mirage will may sell The Excalibur, raze the property and build a new resort or just sell the corner. As Las Vegas tries to shed the "family destination" moniker from the early 1990's and look to more of the adult and/or convention audience, it it could be a good value for MGM-Mirage (and Kirk Kerkorian), which has the cash to spend. The Mandalay Bay's Convention Center is in the top five in terms of area in the U.S. Currently, MGM-Mirage loses some boxing cards to Mandalay Bay (specifically Don King's cards such as the Roy Jones, Jr./Antonio Tarver card in May; they generally get teh bob Aram promoted cards though), but also conventions due to this new, much larger space, basically "across the street" from the MGM Grand. Plus, the Mandalay Bay has the nation' lagest pillar-less space in the nation in terms of a convention/ballroom.

Also, I heard on CNBC that MGM-Mirage would not occupy a majority of rooms, slots, or tables on "The Strip' if allowed by shareholders plus other federal and state government regulations. Rooms would be close to 47%, and both the slots and tables would be around 45%. If downtown is included, their possible percentage is even less. Remember, MGM-Mirage sold the Golden Nugget in 2003. The down side is that MGM-Mirage would hold three of the largest hotels in LAS (if nothte U.S.) in one block, in the MGM Grand, Luxor, and Excalibur. That is not including Mandalay Bay and its new "the Hotel".

According to the gamimg analyst on CNBC, MGM-Mirage was not worried about the Las Vegas market, but more concerned with the Mandalay Bay holdings outside of Nevada.

I had also read somewhere that MGM may consider selling TI and Mirage. I had not heard anything else on that - hopefully just a rumor. I like the idea of imploding Excalibur... With the exception of the Krispy Kreme Factory inside, that place stinks.
