MAGGIE CHEUNG. HKG-PAR. IN July 2002. She was in 2K. I was in 1A. I got her autograph just prior to landing.

Nothing quite so exotic for me, I'm afraid. Luciano Pavarotti on AKL-HKG after his New Zealand tour in 2000, Li Ka-Shing and his fancy in January 2001 (in fact, LKS bumped me out of my pre-assigned 1C - back in the days when the A340 had the old F config 2-2-2).

Some more obscure VIPs include the President of Botswana and an elderly Indian woman purported to be a princess of some sort or other - or so I was informed by the crew at the time.

Not quite sure what the President of Botswana was doing in New Zealand, but LKS was reportedly headed for some golfing.

SIN-HKG
Andrea Bocelli and his entourage. He and his girlfriend was sitting in 4DG. There were two other ladies traveling with them sitting in 3DG. Very pleasant man however he had the seat in the recline position for takeoff and landing ignoring the flight attendants request to place the seat up. I guess its kind of hard to him to know..
In the middle of the flight his girlfriend got up to speak to the other two ladies. They were speaking in a louder tone than normal but it did not really affect me. The lady in 2K got up and complained to the Flight Attendants that they were being too loud. I honestly didnt think it was a big deal. Mr. Bocelli was listening to opera music throughout the flight.. For those who are wondering how I knew she was the girlfriend, well they were kissing quite a lot throughout the flight !

Superstar status or not. He should adhere to safety regulations just like anybody else. In the event of an emergency, well, if he tripped and fell, because he couldn't see where he was going, it's his fault and no body else. Oh wait.. he couldn't SEE that his seat was reclined, could he?

Well, at least he knew where his girlfriend's lips is!

Pre 9-11, I was upstairs in J on CX888. Just before we landed at JFK Kevin Bacon comes out of the cockpit going back to his seat in F. Seems he had been in there for the approach.

Tung Chee Hwa

Tung Chee Hwa on CX509 NRT-HKG 23MAR2001

Because of his wife and staffs, I was forced to move from pre-assigned 14C to 14D.
He was in 12A, his wife was in 12C, his staffs occupied 14A,14C.

Furthremore, CX509 docked in unusual Gate 18 !
He and his staffs went to opposite side to immigrations, e.g, turning to left after exiting from gate.

back in 2002, twice stumbled on Richard Li (big boss of PCCW and son of LKS), first in LHR-HKG then few days later in HKG airport. In both cases I noticed no special treatment, although staff in both cases did recognize him.

I am not very good at recognizing celebs, but I think I MIGHT have seen Martha Stewart on CX 888 HKG-JFK (I got on at YVR).

She was sitting in 3K, and I was sitting in 3A.

She slept all the way to JFK refusing all meal service and only had a couple of cookies and a cup of tea prior to landing. Also, I think she might have bought seat 3G so that she can store all of her carryons (a lot from what I can tell) that were there throughout the flight (the FAs never asked her to stow her carryons in the overhead bins).

After arriving at JFK, a couple of African American police offiers/bodyguard/security guards etc. escorted her off the plane. While waiting for her checked bags, I saw that she had a "Peninsula Manila" shopping bag.

I think I might have also seen Jacky Chan on the same flight a year later (he was sitting in 4A), and he was reading some kind of documents that were in Chinese and tried to cover his face with a newspaper whenever possible and upon arrival at JFK, he was already off the plane before I even had the chance to notice (didn't see him at the immgration hall either).

Anyways to those celebs who I think I might have seen, please forgive me if those people I described are not actually you. (I am very bad at recognizing celebrities)

Just curious,

Has anyone seen celebrities fly J class (when the aircraft has F), or even Y class (I heard rumors that Bill Gates used to fly Y class [before he got his own private jet?])?

I've seen Andy Lui (sp), a famous HK actor/singer on CX255 (HKG-LHR) in late Jan. He was in 1K and his friend in 1A, I was in 2A. I think he'd other friends sitting in J (or even the earlier flights that evening) as well, although he didn't go down there.

Originally, he was assigned 1K (with his friend in 2K) and another passenger was in 1A. The crew asked whether 1A would move, she did, and his friend moved up to 1A.

He was one of the last people to board and was very polite throughout. Maybe apart from the exclusive 1A/K, I didn't notice any special treatment in-flight. The crew did ask for autographs and photos just before breakfast though.

Is there a 'beyond-F' lounge that only VIPs can get to at HKG?

Jackie Chan on CX 881 LAX-HKG Aug. 31, 2003. I was in J and he came through J while boarding was still taking place looking for magazines. He was dressed in his JC wear sweats. One passenger from J went up to get a picture with him (again before departure) and was successful. He was first off the plane in HKG...

idiot TUNG? i wont call this prank a celeb

anyway,

the most 'popular' route is HKG-TPE (they need to promote movie, CD there)
i saw Faye Wong, Rain Lee back in Oct/2000.
faye in 4k, her 2 assistens occupied 4D/F, Rain back in J section with her agent parco wong. i was in 4A

then Kelly Chan on 9/22/1999 (after the 9-21 quake of ritcher scale 7+, we all headed back to HK)
i was at 4A, she in 4K (it was old F class seats...not sure if it was "4")

then people saw Charlie Young, etc.

i stopped flying that route after 2001......

-------
more movie stars were spotted on PEK-HKG, KA J/F classes
jacky cheung a few times, ekin cheng, rosamund kwan, etc
eason chan was running back and forth between the J/Y section, did quite understand why.

many not so famous ones as well....

No, but I saw Tony Leung on a flight to Tokyo for the launch of 2046. A lot of the cabin crew came to have their photos taken with him.
