Does QF have the new Business class on LAX/BNE
I am new to the QF forum
I would like to know what the J seats are like on LAX/BNE
I am looking at the non stop flights that operate , I understand only as 2 class.
Do the J seats have the fully flat beds or are they ols style seats?
Tks

The two-class 747-400's (*known as 74J config) have not commenced conversion to the skybeds yet. That is not planned to commence until some time in 2005.
If you want the skybeds, then you will need to transit through SYD or MEL. And these routes are just starting to get them. The olf Kangaroo fleet of 747-400's has been converted, and they have started on the 747-400ER's (I believe one done and one in progress being VH-OED and OEF respecively).
The 2-class 74J's still have the QF Dreamtime Seats, but they do have the upgraded IFE screens (larger than the original screens and those use in the 767-300's).

Thanks for the reply
Given that my trip next Feb/march will take me form LAX to SE Asia and then to AUs and given that I want to visit SYD and BNE, I think that it is best to go to BNE first and then go down to SYD and return to LAX on the non stop ex SYD to get the SKYBEDS. From what I read the difference in comfort is enough to warrant this routing. Do you agree?

There are 2 flights Daytime #32 and Overnight #06
Is it simply a 50% chance of Skybeds ??

If you take a flight which has a final destination of London then you will have skybeds. If you take one going somewhere else, then you will end up with Dreamtime seats
QF5 does SYD-SIN-FRA and v/v as QF 6 so is the dreamtime seat flight
QF31 does SYD-SIN-LHR and v/v as QF32 so is the Skybed flight

Just the sort of info I needed
I was aware that LHR flights had the flat beds , but did not know that the SIN/SYD flight continued to LHR
Thanks

About those Dreamtime Seats in Business Class
Are they in fact worth the nearly 3x cost of a Y class seat? Admittedly 14+ hours in cattle class (we're all punters back there) is a rough go, but would I be disappointed with spending that kind of coin?
What's International Business class like on the LAX/BNE run, really?

NM flew it last weekend, but all he has reported to date was the J champagne (post #46 here). He's still overseas but we await the full report, unless anybody else has done it and would care to fill us in ??

Based on replies from other posters it seems like the recommendation is route via SYD and get the new sleeper seats. That is what I am going to do.
Based on price- I agree a basic r/t LAX to AUS in J is expensive, but I happen to think that my LAX/HKG/BKK/SIN/SYD/BNE/SYD/LAX ALL IN J (COMBINATION OF CX AND Qantas ) @$4900.00 plus taxes is a good deal under the OW circle Pacific
