Why No 777-200 JFK-MIA or JFK-LAX

With th huge demand for JFK-MIA, and JFK-LAX why isnt AA using any of the 777 equipment on those routes?

Because the 777s and configured 3 class, and they make money when people will pay five figures for an F class seat and mid four figures for a C class seat. Aint gonna happen domestic!

And AA's very deliberate about keeping its international planes on international routes with the exception of a few re-positioning flights between hubs. The only for-demand (vs. re-positioning) non-international 777 flight I can think of is BOS-SDQ on weekends, and that's flown to increase utilization on weekend days that BOS-LHR doesn't fly. All other routes--ORD-DFW, DFW-LAX, LAX-MIA--are done strictly for moving the 777s through the system.

I don't see the huge demand for JFK-MIA. Sure there are lots of flights, but AA has to discount them and sell for under $200. With all the competition from NYC - FLL they can't be making much money on the route. I recently booked MIA-JFK $156 all in. The funny thing is that I could have beat that price using another carrier flying out of FLL. Seems like a waste of the 777 to me.

Just my 2c.

on an almost daily basis, there is a new thread asking why AA uses this plane instead of that plane or complaining about using a 757/737/regional jet on a particular route.

can't we just assume that the MBAs in dallas that have access to all of the data (loads, fare classes typically bought per route, etc.) are using said data to maximize the profits of the airline thereby hopefully keeping said airline afloat thereby increasing the probability that said MBAs will stay employed thereby insuring paychecks and (flight) benefits to/for said MBAs?

But are you convinced they are MBAs? I am willing to bet that MBAs run the department, but it is statistics PhDs and MScs that do the real (read: back office) work.

Seriously, SMF777 is on to something. Can we open an 'Only SMF777' board just for him?

By all means. And then AA can shift all those extra 767s to the SMF routes, because the flights are all "packed," rather than to SFO or SJC where 757 slave ships rule the transcons.
