The Delta Forum Glossary

This thread is for those FlyerTalk members who have a difficult time figuring out the verbiage spoken by FlyerTalk members of the Delta forum here on FlyerTalk.

This thread can be accessed via the Delta Forum milepost (milepost #5) of the PLEASE READ FIRST: Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Anything To Do With Delta “sticky” thread.

In addition to this thread containing a glossary of the definitions of the terms and abbreviations used in the Delta forum on FlyerTalk, one can also access the A Newbie Asks for Some Clarity... thread for further information.

I also plan to start adding hyperlinks to the terms, so be sure to hover your cursor over some of the terms used in this glossary to see if there is a link to an Internet web site that is helpful in understanding the definition and usage of the term. Atlantic Southeast Airlines and ASA are two examples that have already been implemented with links.

Until The Delta Forum Glossary is updated — and, knowing some of the FlyerTalk members who participate in the Delta SkyMiles forum, more will be added if this glossary is ever completed — please start here for some of the more updated terms.

For terminology which is more generic to FlyerTalk itself and not specific to the Delta SkyMiles forum, please refer to the FlyerTalk Glossary.

The Glossary NOT Associated with Delta Air Lines...

Well, it looks as though I needed that extra milepost after all.

For those who want to understand some of the ancillary and humorous acronyms, terms and abbreviations related by FlyerTalk members of the Delta forum, here they are:

WARNING — Many FlyerTalk members of the Delta forum are known to have a warped sense of humour. As a result, there are many terms, acronyms and abbreviations that abound in many threads on the Delta forum that a new member may not understand (or want to understand).

BAG — Beautiful American Girlfriend. This refers to a young lady in Savannah who dumped Dovster just because she found a man who is 17 years younger than him, athletic, lives about 6,000 miles closer to her than he does, and does not have a UIG.

BAL — B!tch-A-Lot, a term originally created by FlyerTalk member and Delta forum regular JS in the Delta FlyerTalk BAL -- please sign in here thread.

B.M.O.P.Bring My Own Pillow, a term originally created by FlyerTalk member and Delta forum moderator obscure2k in the Delta Pillows? thread.

CTMCholula The Man. Not to be confused with CTS, which is Cholula the Sauce.

CTS — Cholula the Sauce. Not to be confused with CTM, which is Cholula The Man.

DM — An abbreviation for Dovster Medallion.

Dovster Medallion — An term used to describe the mythical non-existent lowest possible level of SkyMiles Medallion status, “affectionately” named for FlyerTalk member and Delta forum regular Dovster.

DYKWIA — An abbreviation for Do You Know Who I Am, meaning an egotistical person who overvalues status and self-importance.

Josh Wilde — The infamous and creative yet eccentric alter-ego of FlyerTalk member and Delta forum regular Dovster.

Kryptonium Medallion — A term used to describe the mythical non-existent highest possible level of SkyMiles Medallion status. It is unknown and debatable whether or not this mythical status is higher than Titanium Medallion — and no, we do not intend to officially find out, either. You decide.

SIS — The Sexy Italian Sister of a certain Milanese woman who is known as the UIG (Used Italian Girlfriend) by Dovster.

Titanium Medallion — A term used to describe the mythical non-existent highest possible level of SkyMiles Medallion status.

TM — An abbreviation for Titanium Medallion.

UIG — A certain Milanese woman who is known as the Used Italian Girlfriend by Dovster.

Canarsie...here are a few more that are unique to the DL Forum:

FC...could be either Flying Colonel or First Class depending on the context.

CRC...Crown Room Club

B/E....Business Elite

While not unique to DL, these are used a LOT in this Forum:

FA...Flight Attendant

GA...Gate Agent

I don't know how goofy we want to get with this but the following are used occasionally in this Forum:

BMOP...Bring My Own Pillow...kudos to O2K for this acronym

BAL...B!tch A Lot...describes someone who can rarely find something positive with DL....kudos to JS for this memorable phrase.

DM...Dovster Medallion. Aptly describes somebody with absolutely no elite status.

These are some that I have come up with off the top of my head. I'm sure I...and others...can add to the list as we give it additional thought.
Good idea coming up with this glossary!

I suggest getting rid of all the forum in jokes, such as those about Dovster. To newcomers, it's just confusing. To [some] veterans, it's just not funny and/or annoying.

At the very least, create a separate category to alleviate newcomer confusion.

Do you mean a link to a separate thread altogether, or should they be eliminated entirely?
