The best sushi dinner I ever had was at Mirai.

Chicago sushi can be *pretty* good but I've not been blown away yet. Tank is pretty good as are Mirai and Sushi Wabi.

I am really surprised at Green Tea on Clark in Lincoln Park - cheap and good portions with good quality.

This is a sushi buffet place. Perfect for those with big appetites and don't wanna spend too much! There's a *lot* of food but at <$12 per person this place rocks!

Kaze's flying fish sushi was voted one of the 100 Best Things We Ate (& Drank) This Year by Time Out Chicago magazine(Dec 28th issue).

The particular presentation is quickly seared flying fish tossed in a light tomato-miso-soy sauce with enoki mushrooms, chives, pickled scallions with a light drizzle of truffle oil

Kaze is great -- one of the most unique restaurants in Chicago, IMHO.

Sakuma Japanese Restaurant
43 S Sutton Rd
Streamwood, IL 60107-3367
630) 483-0289

Its exceptional. Located in a typical strip mall; the owners feeling is that if the food is good enough, location isn't important.

I just discovered Butterfly a few weeks ago and thought it was pretty good.

It's on 1156 W. Grand Ave. And if you go, it's BYOB.

Nice. I've been wanting to try a sushi buffet as an alternative to Todai's at Woodfield. I guess I'd get the nigiri upgrade for $21.95.

Edit:
I called them up. You don't get all you can eat nigiri. You just get several pieces and some extra stuff when you upgrade. Only the rolls are all you can eat. Knowing that, I'd just order the $13 thing and eat a ton of rolls.

I know people dislike Todai's but that's still my favorite place as I like large amounts of food. Does anyone know of any other all you can eat sushi places in the chicago area?

What about Sushi Para II on 22xx N. Clark? It is 1/4 block south across from the old Tower Records that shut down. That has replaced House of Sushi and Noodles as my all you can eat sushi restaurant.

You can order nigiri as well as rolls and the quality have been consistently better than House of Sushi and Noodles in my opinion
