Hehe... I just glanced over that one and saw December and November dates, figured they were 2005. Oops!

Does anyone know of any current promotions running out West? Amtrak.com does not list anything.

Code V626 (NEC to RI) also works for those traveling FROM the RI stations (Providence, Kingston, Westerly) to other locations in the NEC (such as NYP, BOS, etc...). At least it worked for me leaving from my home station (KIN). I just input V626 online, and it took with no problem. So you don't actually have to stay 1 night in the Ocean State.

I assume this discount code is still good, as the fare states "... all unreserved trains ... ", since ALL trains on the NEC are reserved. There are no more unreserved trains.

Military fares (families too)

Another national fare to add to the list above:

10% Discount for Military Personnel

Active duty US military personnel, along with their spouses and their dependents, are eligible to receive a 10% discount off most Amtrak rail fares in the US, including for travel on the Auto Train.

Mysteriously, when I called and tried to use V626 on a ticket from NY, the agent told me it wasn't valid (she said "a lot of people have been trying to call in and use that code even if they're not travelling to Rhode Island), but then said she could still give me the greater discount of 20% off for being military.

On Monday I tried booking WAS-NYC for Tuesday travel using V626 and for the first time it wouldn't work, got the message that this discount could not be booked online.

V648 is actually valid on all trains that serve Chicago, except for the Hoosier State.

Amtrak is now offering a 15% discount for International Student Identity Card (ISIC) holders through 31 December. From 1 January 2006 on, the discount will be 10%.

Hello,
Please excuse a new poster if I'm not in the right place. My question to the forum is: When purchasing Amtrak tickets am I able to use two or more discounts for a ticket. That is, will AAA and Rail passengers association 10% discounts be combined for a 20% discount. Thanks. NR

Unfortunately, no stacked discounts in the manner you are referring to.

Occasionally, you may be able to combine a discounted rate (like AAA) with a discount code (like H431). This is rare however (don't bother with H431, it expired long ago but was an example of a stackable discount code). You will see on Amtrak's website: "Please note that promotion codes may usually only used to discount standard fares. Typically, they may not be combined with other passenger discounts"

Thank You SWG

Thanks, your reply was helpful and informative (as are most of the posts to this forum). Again, being new at this, I'd like to ask if you or others might be able to direct me to an answer.

I notice 'codes' being used and although I have looked, I haven't been able to find where these can be found or how they are used. Is there a faq or site that has some information on these discount 'codes'.
Best Regards
NR
