I wanted to share my very positive experience at the Buenos Aires Sheraton this past weekend when I could have a had a mini disaster on my hands. I injured my ankle on Friday. On Saturday morning, having a very swollen ankle and a good deal of pain, I decided I should probably seek medical attention. I called the concierge at the hotel, who told me a doctor would be at my room within one-half hour.
Indeed, the doctor came to my room on time, examined me, told me I needed x-rays, drove me to a clinic in his car, stayed with me for a consultation with an orthopaedic specialist, fit me with a contraption to imobilize my ankle (I had ruptured ligaments), gave me anti-inflammatory drugs, drove me back to the hotel and wrote out specific instructions on what I was to do as I was thisclose to surgery if I did not heed his instructions. I can't begin to explain how much it means to get this kind of treatment when you're in pain and in a foreign country and not fluent in the language.
Furthermore, I was told by the staff that I could stay as late as I needed to stay on the day of check-out without any additional charges. I just had one positive experience after another including the host at the restaurant in the hotel who told me to put my foot up on a chair - and then when he saw me in the lobby the day of check-out, made a special point of coming up to me and asking me if I was feeling better and wishing me well.
I cannot recommend this hotel enough!

Well, I stayed at the Sheraton Libertador Hotel over the past weekend and the front desk showed extraordinary courtesy as well. Also, I was given a 5pm late check-out. ^ ^

I just stayed at the Sheraton BsAs this past weekend and had a very pleasant experience. Nothing extraordinary, but the room was quite nice (exactly how it looks on the web page). Didn't receive any real upgrade as SPG Gold as far as I could tell, just a room on the (high) SPG floor, with I guess what would be called a river/city view. Location was very good, not excellent, but taxis are plentiful and CHEAP (nothing we took was more than US$3 incl tips) and city traffic wasn't all that bad, particularly on the weekend (NOTHING like Sao Paulo!)
All in all a very good use of SPG points (reward stay, Cat 2). Could have done $ and points for roughly same # of points plus US$60/night at the Park Tower, but I don't think it was really necessary, Sheraton was absolutely fine.

One year after my original post, I returned to this hotel. I thought they deserved my business after my experience a year ago.
I can still say that I love this hotel. It is a large convention hotel. However, I was made to feel, again, as though I was staying at a smaller luxury hotel. This year, I was "Gold." However, I received the "Platinum" treatment. My partner and I were put on the Executive Floor with the Executive lounge. After the first day, at breakfast and later in the p.m., when we would return from a day of seeing the sights, we didn't have to request what we wanted to drink - it was immediately brought to us.
Every request was responded to in an efficient and friendly manner. When we checked in and hooked up the notebook computer, it wouldn't work. The Executive Desk sent a young man to fix the problem. We received two free days of internet. We were not charged for anything we drank from the mini-bar (admittedly, no liquor was consumed).
Absent a stunningly low rate at another good hotel, I can't imagine any reason to stay anywhere else in Buenos Aires.

Did you learn the trick of using the PT's elevators and then simply getting to your room from that side?? When the Sheraton is crowded during conventions, this is a big time saver.
