This normally gets posted around mid-October, but as we are seeing a dramatic increase in requests for assistance, I thought it would be best to share this message written by our former co-moderator, bhatnasx. -dmfriedman
Hello All,
As we approach the end of the year, many people will soon realize that they don't have enough EQMs to maintain the level of status that they had this year. They may need to do a few mileage runs. They may be waiting for another NW or UA double EQM promo. They just may not realize that their EQM count isn't what it was last year, but the status is still important to them.
No matter what the story is, the fact of the matter is that people, yourself included, may need some help as the year ends to attain status. And what better place to get that help than FlyerTalk?
So, as we approach the last part of 2012, let's try to remember a few points:
A few years ago, well before my time here on FlyerTalk, one of our resident experts, tvl4free started a thread offering to help those folks that needed assistance as December 31st was, then, fast approaching.. Two years ago, gleff started a similar thread - it wouldn't surprise me if we see another thread of that nature this year as well - given how helpful many FlyerTalkers are. In those threads, there were some simple requests - which tvl4free initially stated - those requests are still relevant today - when asking for help with a MR, please note the following - as tvl4free said it best:
The more information you can provide, the more folks will be able to help you.
As we're getting closer to the end of the year, it would be best for you to start planning ahead & try to snag any good deals that may come your way before it's too late (i.e. December 30th!). Don't forget that many fares have advance purchase restrictions - often times of 7, 14, or even 21 days. There may be another "End of the Year Status Run Help Thread" coming to our boards sometime in late November or early December this year, but if we all plan a little more in advance, we may be able to get to our desired status levels before the years end.

- FlyerTalkers are helpful people - but in general, those who attempt to help themselves, will probably receive more help. Don't just post "Hey, I need 73K EQMs to hit 1K again this year - any ideas?" - instead, try to do some of your own research - find fares out of your town.
There are several tools available to you in the Mileage Run Tools thread & FlyerTalker & Mileage Run Moderator VPescado has written an excellent guide that has been beneficial to many people on how to construct & book a mileage run. tvl4free had previously written the Mileage Runner's Bible - also known as the Mileage Run Primer, most of which was lost when the transition from the old FT software to the new FT software happened - luckily, St.Sebastian was able to find quite a bit of it archived.
- Don't get upset if no one is able to help you - sometimes, requests for help just go ignored - it might be because no one else really has too much input to help you. For example, if you're an FT'er who is located in some remote airport in Alaska & you're looking for a run, there may not be other FT'ers that are in the same market as you & therefore there may not be people who are familiar enough with the market to be able to offer you a suggestion.
- Please refrain from posting multiple threads on the same topic - last year, there were a few instances I recall, that users started multiple threads on the same topic since they felt their questions weren't being answered. Multiple threads on the same topics will be deleted.
- Requests for assistance belong in the Mileage Run Discussion forum - Since last year, we have reorganized the Mileage Run forums a bit. Please do not place any requests for assistance in the Mileage Run Deals forum.
- Courtesy is key -don't forget to thank the people that took the time to help you. If someone takes the time to help you out, please be courteous enough to thank them. A small "thank you" can go a long way.

- Cash transactions are NOT allowed on FlyerTalk - If you need help finding a mileage run & want to reward someone for helping you, that's perfectly fine. However, please do not offer cash for the assistance. Instead, offer something else - you can offer an upgrade certificate, drink vouchers, discount coupons, a gift card, miles, points, cookies, your alcoholic grandmother's eggnog recipe - anything - just as long as its not cash.
Anyone who offers financial incentives to have others help them find mileage run may have their posts or the entire thread deleted and/or edited without warning. Since it is a violation of the TOS to offer money on this site, disciplinary action may be taken.
