substitute for regular toothpase to avoid jel/cream/liquid ban
Toothpaste is the only jel/cream/liquid that I need to find a substitute for to avoid checking a bag under current restrictions.
(assuming that stick deodorant and chapstick are ok).
Baking soda seems a little draconian.
Have heard of tooth powder but never searched for it in the store...suggestions? experiences?

Pre-pasted disposal toothbrushes
I am using pre-pasted disposal toothbrushes. They cost around $.09 each. You can buy them at www.plaksmacker.com

TSA.gov clearly states that only gel deodorant is banned from carryon bags at the moment.
Additionally, a tube of chapstick in you pocket is never going to be found unless you offered it up.

Baking soda--it was used for years. It will clean your teeth well. Use floss too. They'll look like this 
Buy a cheap mouthwash with fluoride when you land--it the hotel doesn't provide it gratis.

* gel (semi-opaque, clearish coloring, slimy)
* stick (white, somewhat harder than gel, opaque)
* aerosol (self-explanatory)
The TSA site says
"Deodorants made of gel or aerosol"
are banned from carry-on
I have not been stopped with stick yet but have not had a bag search either.
Has anyone else been prevented from carrying on (my version of) stick deodorant?

If you want to bring it in a carryon, be sure and leave it in the original box. A ziplock baggie would probably be a bad idea.

I did search on "tooth powder" (in this forum) and only 3 threads appeared...this one, another one where the only tooth powder suggestion was your post (cinammon sounds like a strong flavor for brushing with), and one about getting toothpaste from the hotel which was only peripherally helpful

There's a product over here that you can get in most supermarkets & Drug Stores called 'Brush Away'.
It's a mint flavoured cloth/paper that fits over your finger & you rub it over your teeth.
It rubs away a lot of the plaque & seems to make your mouth feel a lot fresher.
Not as good as using a toothbrush & paste but at least you can fit a couple in your wallet or carry on.

EcoDent cinnamon tooth powder is ok
I purchased my EcoDent cinnamon tooth powder and tried it today. It worked just fine. I don't like it as well as toothpaste, but it is an acceptable workaround. Lots of places carry it online. I bought mine locally at Henry's Grocery Store, which carries lots of organic foods.
