The default in Microsoft Word is Alt 0128. Otherwise, its easy enough to cut and paste from the internet using a Google search.

I run my laptop on Windows XP. So I would go to:

Start -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Character Map

Then find and select and copy the character you need, then paste into the document. I used to be supremely frustrated about what I wanted to type, until I discovered the character map.

Since my laptop doesn't have the numerical keyboard needed for the Alt+code method, I use 3 different ways, (depending on what I'm doing). In Word and Express, I use the Insert Symbol icon and leave that dialog box open so that I can continue to paste from it.

In Outlook Express, I saved a draft with all the foreign and/or odd characters I sometimes use and copy-paste from that into my emails.

Since the Alt+code method is by far the easiest, I need to get a numerical keyboard, but I only have 4 USB ports which, at present, are being used for my mouse, printer, scanner and modem. I already have to unplug something to download to the IPod.

I put a Word document on my desktop with all these symbols and simply paste them into whatever I'm working on. Saves having to remember this Alt+ stuff.

Assuming you have an AltGr key! Last time I had one of those, I also had a € key so this type of question was moot.

(and I copy/pasted that €)

In Microsoft Word you can set your own shortcut keys...so you could ostensibly set euro to CTRL-SHIFT-E and british pound to CTRL-SHIFT-G.

Over here in the US, we don't have the AltGr key.

That, and depending on the country, the keyboard layout itself can be somewhat different in deference to local language patterns. US keyboard is QWERTY, German keyboard is QWERTZ.

Zou would send some seriouslz sillz messages if zou weren't looking at the displaz.
