Don't forget www.craigslist.org, which is a biggie in the States, especially in the Bay Area...
And for Bulgaria, http://imot.bg/perl/main.cgi?lang=3 is very comprehensive and available in English! Rented myself a decent room for $100 a month in Veliko Tarnovo right next to the castle on the hill.
