Smile LAX-SYD on a 777 in under 5 hours!

Ah the .bomb wunderkind have surpassed themselves once again.

Checking My Itineries I was surprised to see the following:
Los Angeles, CA (LAX) to Sydney, Australia (SYD)
United 0839
Depart: LAX 22:30
Arrive: SYD 8:05
2nd day
Jan XX Non-stop
4h 52m
Boeing 777

7,483 miles traveled
Had I realized things were going to get this good I would have just gotten a ticket for the back of the bus.

Mind you this good news is offset by the fact that SFO-LAX now takes over five hours:
San Francisco, CA (SFO) to Los Angeles, CA (LAX)
United 0103
Depart: SFO 19:30
Arrive: LAX 20:59 Non-stop
5h 57m
Boeing 767-300
337 miles traveled
You win some, you lose some.

Meanwhile the SFO-HNL and HNL-SFO legs have no idea what plane I'll have or how long it takes etc.

Oh you didn't hear the news about UA strapping some rockets to the back of a 777? Yeah it's their new way of saving fuel. Instead they use liquid hydrogen and liquid oxygen. Watch out for that whiplash!

Then SFO-LAX is their new shuttle route. It's called Greyhound.

I thought United's shuttle service is called UA Express ... so no express anymore, just UA.

Regarding the 5hrs LAX-SYD: Looks like the ever-shrinking world got a bit smaller again. Try to get an onward connection from SYD based upon your itinary. If you miss on that you can go and hold UA responsible for it - safe deal.

Apparently my favorite airline has figured out how to either manipulate the space-time continuum or make a 777 fly at mach 3. Either way its very impressive

Or they are using the spaceship from the movie "Event Horizon" that can bend space for quicker travel over long distances.

See, I think that this is where we, as FTers do not truly appreciate the bomb. There is no doubt that it provides for some occasional laughs and wacky antics! That's gotta be worth something!

I am flying Ted from AKL to LAX in 2hr37min next year. Fortunately, it has been fixed, but it really said that due to a schedule change.

Sure it may be funny to us now, but what if you had a last-minute purchase, but SOB says you can't book it since there'd be an illegal connection or something of that sort? Then it might not be as funny.

Based on the information in the first post, it appears as though the actual flight times and dates are correct. What's incorrect is the elapsed time displayed, but as that's for informational purposes only, it doesn't affect connections, etc.

Very true. Let's just hope SOB doesn't get that bad though.

Check the "N-number" on the plane. Bet it is NCC-1701.

I know, I know. I was just trying to make a joke and point out the (micron-thin) silver lining to the SOB dark cloud.

And, actually, it's funny you should say that 'cause, as I pointed out on this thread, Weird Married Segments..., that pretty much did happen to me, only it wasn't last minute.
