Expired e-500s: new policy or outdated page?
I was just perusing united.com, and came upon this page Upgrades overview. There's a very interesting section here, and I'm not sure if it's very new or very old. (Emphasis added.)
Did anyone have e-500s expire in the past month or so? Did you get miles for them?
500-mile E-upgrades expire after 1 year. Expired 500-mile E-upgrades that were purchased will automatically be converted into miles (mile for mile) in your account upon expiration. Complimentary 500-mile E-upgrades expire with no mileage conversion.

Wow. Terrible news. I just recently applied a CR1 because I had bunches of both CR1s and 500s and I figured the 500s would expire and turn to miles. This stinks. Can I call and change from CR1s to 500s?

This is new. I was just looking for my 1,500 miles for expired certs 12/31, and I was wondering where the miles were? Now I understand ... thanks United!
And as I try to use my certs, they are going to deduct the purchased ones first from my account, right? So the next three I won't be able to use by 1/31 are going to be from the complimentary, and the three I will use from the purchased account?

i think you can, but you'll lose your confirmed seat since you can't confirm an upgrade with your 500s until (since you're a 1k) 100 hours before the flight.

I just talked to MP BUT did not know there was an issue. She said something about getting miles for the 500's but not the regionals. I guess it is time to ask for a supervisor. Down and down we go....

General Mileage Plus members who want to upgrade to the next of service have the following options: ...
For now, under Mileage Plus > Elite members, the policy still states that:
"Expired 500-mile E-Upgrades will automatically be converted into miles (mile for mile) in your account upon expiration."

8,000 miles credited 1/2/2007 end of day ... the 16 upgrades were taken out of my account morning of 1/1/2007, so I was worried but I guess the delay may have had something to do with the change in policy.
