Difference between SP and MR points?

I think I've figured out Star Points and Member Rewards points have different rules alhtough they both are issued thoough American Express. Am I correct that Star points can be transfered into an AA account but Meber Rewards can't?
If I'm correct I just applies and got approved for a business AMEX which gives Member rewards. If I wanted American points can anyone advise me on the best way to spend those 25,000 points. I live in Hawaii so low mileage redemption on airlines is not an option for me.
Thanks everybody.

Membership Rewards is a program designed and administered by American Express. Points accumulate in an account at Amex and can be redeemed from an online catalog at http://membershiprewards.com or transferred to partner airline or hotel programs. American Airlines does not participate in Membership Rewards. Starwood hotels do participate, but the transfer ratio is poor 3:1, meaning that 25,000 MR points would convert to 8,325 Starpoints.

Starwood Preferred Guest is a progam designed and administered by Starwood Hotels. American Express offers a credit card that earns Starpoints, but these points accumulate in an account at Starwood, and American Express is not involved in the redemptions.

A popular choice by cardholders who want to liquidate Membership Rewards points is to transfer to Hawaiian Airlines. If you do not otherwise need such miles they can be transferred to Hilton HHonors points on 2:1 basis, 25000 MR points = 25000 Hawaiian Miles = 50,000 HHonors points.
