Better service today in coach than FC
I thought my 7:50AM flight this morning from TPA to LGA started off poorly when I didn't upgrade to first. But that turned out to be a good thing. I had 25C (exit row) all to myself as nobody was in 25B or 25A. Tons of leg room and empty seats all around me. WOW....
First class is always full and if you are unlucky enough to get 1D or 2A on the MD88 there is not much leg room. My exit row seat was actually better.
Then to my surprise half way through the flight an FA approached me and she actually knew my name. She said she was sorry that I didn't get upgraded and she offered me anything from the FC cabin including cocktails.
I don't drink in the morning but I thanked her for her wonderful service.
This was far better than FC.
Was this my lucky day, or is Delta service improving??

That's the difference between a true Frequent Flyer and an Upgrade Junkie - and you know who you are.
Its funny to watch those grovel for upgrades into an always-full F cabin when, if the back of the plane is not full (rare as it is these days), and you don't care about drinking (or you are hoarding those expired coupons), you can throw up the armrests and have a reasonably comfortable flight in coach.

Wow, congrats! Nice she knew you were on the list and didn't get upgraded. Some of the FA's are super nice I have encounted lately. Just a nice touch for that extra touch of service.

I'm 6'3'' and it feels kind of tight for me. But it is better than 1D. The bulkhead infront of 2 has a groove in the bottom that extends in about three or four inches. Its just high enough to get the tip of your shoe under. Every little bit helps. I wish they would do it to the bulkhead in front of row 1.
Well if I was wishing, I wish for the return of the 757's on that TPA to LGA run.

There have been times especially on red-eye overnight flights where I was thankful to be in the coach class cabin with no passengers seated next to me rather than in the first class cabin.
Grab a pillow and a blanket or, in the case of Delta Air Lines, two blankets lift up the armrests, and one can lie down across three seats reasonably comfortably and sleep.

As soon as I got my F meal, I hightaliled it back to Y and grabbed a 3-across set of seats, in which I lay down and slept for the 3-hour duration of the remaining flying time.

I wouldn't advertise the flight numbers that we experience this great service. There are a few executives who monitor these boards. They probably don't want to hear about FAs giving away free stuff. It's a nice gesture BUT, it doesn't "protect the revenue"!

Don't worry, there are plenty out there that are BAD service givers!!! Mona Stands out. She was on my CUN flight and then on a flight a friend had last night from ATL-SLC. She is HIGH up there with a employee # around 4000. She just has a bad day EVERYDAY!.

Great job by the FA's in this case. :-: :-: :-: :-: :-:
I'm curious as to why the OP thought that the service was "Better", I'm reading that it was as good as, with a more space (not service), but not better.

The service was better in only one respect, that being that the FA addressed me by name. That is rare for me at least in domestic FC. You are correct in pointing out the additional space I enjoyed during that flight was not service related, but it sure felt good anyway.
And I agree that Delta management should be very pleased with that particular FA. She went out of her way to please a customer who flies somewhere 40 weeks a year. In addition, I didn't accept her kind offer for a drink. So it cost Delta nothing. I think she could teach management a thing or two on how to treat a passenger.
