Select Fee Waivers Confirmed for 1K and GS

My angels in PDX just informed me that as of 3/1/07 there will be no more $100 change fees on tickets. They did not know if was same day only, like in the past. They got the news in their meeting this week.

If this is true, awesome! ^ ^

Wow, an actual enhancement?

If this is true, I would be VERY impressed. So would it also be free to cancel tickets, or just change?

That would be astoundingly valuable to me--the ability to make changes after booking without having to pay (unless the same class wasn't available, etc.) would be great.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.

Hmmm, while this would be nice.

Why would anyone still buy a fully refundable fare (which I think is UA's bread & butter).

Remember that waiving the change fee doesn't mean you do anything you like for free. If you change the outbound, you have to refare. So you might save $100 but end up paying much more for the ticket. On the return you can often change for no charge (besides the change fee) if your fare bucket is available on the new flight.

You're title implies that this is for 1k and GS only - that is NOT news.

If it's for evreyone - that's news. Would take away one of the 1k vs 1p differances.

Not true. 1K's and UGS's don't have fees for awards for changes, but we do for revenue flights.

Yes it certainly is news as there are change fees for 1Ks currently, just like everyone else.

Even though 1K has been diluted, there have been a couple of recent attempts by UA to up the ante a bit:

* SFO (and now IAD) boarding lines -- only 1K and GS are recognized (nice touch)
* All other boarding: 1K can go w/ United First
* 1K Only Website
* No $100 fee for 1Ks for changes to mileage tickets

If the news reported here indeed is true, that would be a very nice benefit.

This was a benefit for 1P's and 1K's prior to the big takeaway back in 2002 but it was never a "published" benefit. If it's true, I wonder if there will be a press release or if they will just start to do it and let word of mouth take over?
