Exclamation FAQ: Can SPG50s be booked online? Answer: No

Similar to an earlier posed question. Anyone have suggestions for how I might research SPG50 availability via the web? I hate calling everytime to check on this.

Unfortunately the website does not allow you to do this. You do have to call.

Can SPG50s be booked online? (merged)

As has been mentioned here many times in the past, one cannot book an SPG50 rate directly on the spg.com website. This is one of those rates that simply must be booked by calling *wood directly.

My question is basic: WHY NOT? If we can book other award stays on line using anywhere from 2,000 to 10,000++ points per night, what would be the logic in blocking us from SPG50 availability?

Many of us hold paper SPG50 certs from AMEX and other sources, and all of us have the ability to seek out an SPG50 rate using 1,500 points. It is my great wish that Starwood consider this enhancement for the near future.

Can anyone think of a reason this would not serve Starwood well?

Can't be done. You'll have to call *wood.

you would think that in this day and age it could be done online...but, i guess not.

(there is a "Promotion Code" field which could handle the complex "SPG50" designation.)

Cannot do it, period. This is a significant irritant for me, too.

If you need to book online (for promo credit) - go ahead and book a refundable rate online. Then call Starwood with the confirmation number, and see if SPG50 is of any value for that property and date. They can change the res. and you still get online booking credit (once that was very valuable, now only sometimes).

However, don't do this and expect to get it changed to SPG50 if the SPG50% Off rate is not available for your travel dates.

Can SPG50s be booked online? (merged)

Good Evening:

Could anyone tell me if I could make an online reservation incorporating the certificate? I want to be able to take advantage of online booking starpoints opportunity if it is at all possible. Also, I assume that using this cert makes my paid stay (excluding amenities) exempt from receiving starpoints. Any and all help appreciated.

You may not redeem a 50% cert online. What you prob can do is call to see if they have availability on the dates you want, make a room reservation online with whatever rate if online, call back and have them switch to the 50% rate. That MIGHT get you the online bonus.

"Also, I assume that using this cert makes my paid stay (excluding amenities) exempt from receiving starpoints. Any and all help appreciated."

Still not clarified.

When using a SPG 50 certificate, do you get Starpoints for your stay ?

Is there any trick one has to use in order to get the points ?

As we've discussed numerous times here on FT, I fully agree. This is one significant enhancement that I suggest every single time *wood contacts me asking for input or feedback to the total SPG program. I WANT TO BE ABLE TO SEARCH SPG50 RATES ONLINE -- this would save me time and *wood $$$ (by not tying up their res staff for my phone calls).

PLEASE!!!
