ARN-PEK down to 3 flights a week for the winter
As have been asked elsewhere, where will SK get the aircrafts from. SAS SalesInfo yesterday published that ARN-PEK goes down to 3 flights a week after already have been selling tickets for a 4 flights a week schedule.
Between 28OCT2007 and 28MAR2007 SK993 wil operate 3, 5 and 7 with SK994 the following day.
Amazing how consistent they can be in their planning

Scandinavian Airlines inaugurated its Stockholm-Beijing air route as recently as March 25, last Sunday. But it is already clear that the service will expand from four to five departures a week this autumn.

We all know that SAS is no exactly doing a good job on its launhaul strategy (one would claim that is contradiction in terms). However, I have a hard time seeing why one can blame SAS that ARN screws up in its PR stunts. ARN does certainly not have a track record of top notch PR performance

"SAS has an extensive route network between Scandinavia and China. SAS will operate ten flights a week to Beijing Airport and from September 2007 traffic will be strengthened with additional departures from both Stockholm and Copenhagen."
In addition, the last week or two, Amadeus has shown five weekly flights ARN-PEK starting in the fall...

I don't know who is to blame for this particular screw up but with SAS "strategy" changing more or less daily it must be difficult for anyone trying to keep up with it. The quote below is from an SAS press release dated 30 January:
"SAS has an extensive route network between Scandinavia and China. SAS will operate ten flights a week to Beijing Airport and from September 2007 traffic will be strengthened with additional departures from both Stockholm and Copenhagen."

And this week SAS SalesInfo published information that one weekly flight ARN-PEK will be cancelled starting already 05SEP2007.
So, in effect this means that already 05SEP2007 the flight goes from 4 to 3 weekly flights. Amazing!
How exactly do SK managment think this will increase the confidence in SK after the PR-fiasco this week???

This winter SAS seems to be increasing frequencies ARN-PEK. Business seems to be good.
"Scandinavian Airlines increases flights to Beijing; adds code share destinations SAS Scandinavian Airlines is increasing its service between Scandinavia and Beijing due to high demand. A daily service between Copenhagen and Beijing was introduced last month and early next year, SAS will also further increase frequency on its Stockholm-Beijing route to six weekly. "The demand between Scandinavia and China is particularly strong, with a load factor of over 90% in recent months. We are therefore pleased to have introduced a daily service between Copenhagen and Beijing. We also look forward to further increased frequencies between Stockholm and Beijing as of March 2008, to further meet customer demand," says Lars Sandahl Srensen, Chief Executive Officer, SAS International. "SAS uses Beijing as our main hub in China, and we now offer excellent connections with code share flights to major important destinations such as Shanghai, Guangzhou and Chengdu. These routes are served by our partner, and soon-to-be Star Alliance member, Air China." "We are also pleased that the Danish, Norwegian and Swedish Olympic Games teams have all chosen to travel with SAS to Beijing next summer," says Sandahl Srensen. SAS passengers traveling in Business or Economy Extra are upgraded when available when traveling domestic with Air China. Business class passengers will travel onwards in First class, whilst those in Economy Extra are upgraded to Business. SAS passengers in all classes can also enjoy the free Meet and Assist service that is available at Beijing Airport. SAS currently operates 10 weekly services between Scandinavia and China. During the summer 2008 programme, SAS will continue to operate a daily service between Copenhagen and Beijing, and six flights a week between Stockholm and Beijing, bringing the total to 13 weekly services. During the first quarter of 2008, a new Star Alliance terminal will open at Beijing airport, as well as an additional runway. Next year, Beijing will host the Olympic Games between August 8 and 24, which will also significantly increase the number of customers wishing to travel to China.
