That's what happens when pilots fly by the seat of their pants.

The air inflated g-suits can cause problems-which is why the Blue Angels demo team doesn't use them.

But interestingly, at least to me, the Thunderbirds do wear g-suits.

How scary that must have been...flying along to have the canopy blast off and you being ejected from the plane shortly after - all with you not expecting any of it!

^ Cool. I can remember as a kid watching both the Thunderbirds and the Blue Angels perform, in alternate years, in my home town. I would have loved to have ever met any of them. (I never could decide which was my favorite as every performance was amazing.)

By no means the only inadvertent triggering of an ejector seat to have ever happened. There was one in Britain a while ago where inverted flying was being practiced and the switch somehow got snagged.

It must indeed come as quite a shock !

At my old skydiving club an instructor was taking up some first timers and was kneeling looking out of the open aircraft door at 3,500 feet as they were running in. The students were packed in behind, one of them stretched, and kicked him out of the door . He said afterwards it came as a bit of a shock, too ! (actually I seem to remember him using somewhat different words). He wasn't planning to jump on that particular sortie so it was impressive he pulled his chute within about 2 seconds of his unplanned exit.
