AA pilots propose 30.5 percent raise
01:52 PM CDT on Thursday, May 3, 2007
By TERRY MAXON / The Dallas Morning News
Excerpt:
American Airlines Inc.’s pilots proposed Thursday that they get a 30.5 percent increase on May 1, 2008, and 5 percent raises each year for the next three years.
The Allied Pilots Association made the proposal at midday Thursday to American’s negotiating committee.
“Other American Airlines stakeholders have already recovered their investment in our airline’s turnaround,” said APA president Ralph Hunter, a pilot. “It is time for our pilots to begin doing the same.”

I wonder if this is what finally will bring the "only major domestic carrier to never experience bankruptcy" to its knees?

Job security? No.
Partnership to grown the mainline to increase jobs? No.
30.5% wage hike? Gotta have it.
Not exactly the sharpest tools in the drawer.

They're going into contract negotiations; they had to start with something, and they won't start with a low offer. IMO, no big deal - their press flacks are just doing their job, like AA's do theirs.
I'm also sure they will put their bodies on the line to assure cabin and ground staff get the same raise...

Because 30% just didn't seem like enough and 31% looked too greedy...

wow...what morons! I'm not getting much of a raise so why should they feel that they are entitled to some bogus raise. They need to get off their God complex and realize they're not that important...

While I understand that contract negotiations have to start somewhere, this amount (and don't forget the one time 15% signing bonus they are also requesting, according to the article) is laughable to me.
If I ever went to my boss and requested a raise like this, I'd be shown the door.

30.5% pay hike for what - Getting me to my destination 3 hours late and claiming it's weather related? I think not.
