Thumbs up San Francisco Do 2007: September 14-16

Hey Folks,

After several successful SFO area dinners, it’s time for something bigger than that. As a result we have been working on a San Francisco Mega-Do, hopefully, which will take place Friday, September 14, through Sunday, September 16. I hope this gives everyone enough advanced notice so that they can plan ahead, and hopefully we can see a good number of people there!

While the plans are not finalized yet, we can promise it will be a fun time filled with plenty of things to do. Since a lot of the potential activities are based on the number of people we get, you can expect to see plans in due time.

For those flying in (like me), hold off a few days on booking flights. We are working on a potential activity for Friday afternoon which you wont want to miss, but nothing is finalized!

Saturday will be filled with stuff to do, and we have already received dozens of recommendations, which we are pursuing at this time.

On Sunday you can expect the activities to be over in time for the afternoon eastbound departures, let’s say at around 1PM to people can make their 3PMish flights back east.

We hope to see plenty of people there, be it at everything planned or just one event!

Feel free to confirm, add yourself to the definite maybe list, or maybe list. Also, depending on what kind of activities we are planning, there may be a need for “pre-paying” certain things, but that wont be an issue for at least a few more months.

Check this post and check it often, since stuff will be changing all the time.

Your hosts,
lucky, Wireless, and xj47

Folks, we are in the process of planning an event for Friday afternoon which would start a bit earlier, so I highly recommend you hold off a bit on booking your flights since this is an event you don't want to miss if it works out. Gracias!

What we're planning:

Here is a tentative schedule. Please note that confirmed events are marked in orange. Sign-up is not open yet, but as soon as it is, we will let you know. Thanks!

Friday Night:
-As people arrive both from the airport or from work for the locals, drinks at the XYZ Bar at the W Hotel until around 7:30PM.
-Dinner at 8PM at Thirsty Bear, located at 661 Howard Street.
-After dinner, around 10:30ish, pub crawl, drinks somewhere, something in some "hip" area.

Saturday:
-Several choices for daytime activities will be announced shortly, including tours, sightseeing, etc.
-We will have dinner at Fior d'Italia at 7PM, which is located at 2237 Mason Street. We have a room for around 120 people, and you can see the banquet menu here. Since options I & II are not available that night, we will likely be going for III, which seems like a reasonable deal. If you have any special dietary needs let me know and they will happily prepare it for you.
-Pub crawling hosted by party_boy and maybe someone else. Details to be announced.

Sunday:
-We will have Dim Sum at Fook Yuen at 11AM, which is already in Millbrae, not far from the airport. Anyone flying out on a 3PMish flight should have plenty of time to attend. Exact menu details will be determined shortly.
-For those that are sticking around for the afternoon and only taking the redeye or are locals, maybe a baseball game, go karts, or something else.

Recommended Hotels:

Since we know that FT'ers are loyal to different hotel chains, we figured we would just recommend a few which will be central to the Do. You can see the recommended ones on this Google map which xj47 made. SPG properties are in red, Hyatt in green, Marriott in yellow, and Hilton in blue. Since some of these hotels are pricey we can always set up roomates if anyone is interested, and I am sure something can be arranged. Again, these are only recommended, so do whatever you'd like.

SPG Properties:

W San Francisco
181 3rd Street
(415) 777-5300

The Westin St. Francis
335 Powell Street
(415) 397-7000

The Westin San Francisco Market Street
50 Third Street
(415) 974-6400

St. Regis Hotel, San Francisco
125 3rd Street
(415) 284-4000
alliance
Mrs. Alliance

Palace Hotel
2 New Montgomery Street
(415) 512-1111

Hyatt Properties:

Grand Hyatt San Francisco
345 Stockton Street
(415) 398-1234

Hyatt Regency San Francisco (Not very central to the Do)
5 Embarcadero Center
(415) 788-1234

Marriott Properties:

JW Marriott San Francisco
500 Post Street
(415) 771-8600

San Francisco Marriott
55 Fourth Street
(415) 896-1600

Courtyard San Francisco Downtown
299 Second Street
(415) 947-0700

Hilton Properties:

Hilton San Francisco
333 O'Farrell Street
(415) 771-1400

Hilton San Francisco Financial District (Not very central to the Do)
750 Kearny Street
(415) 433-6600

Other Hotels FT'ers are staying at:
Galleria Park
191 Sutter St.
(415) 781-3060
Daringdoo

Now, hotels in San Francisco definitely aren't cheap, so there are plenty of options if you don't want to pay $200+. There are some AAA rates at some of these properties and some other codes, but I don't need to be telling my fellow FT'ers that. Also, if you are interested, you can room together with someone else to bring the price way down. If you can't find anyone else otherwise, let us know, and we can try to work something out.

Also, please let us know what hotels you are staying at, so I can add you to the list for the hotel. Under each hotel I will put the handles of those that are staying there.

Put me down as a maybe.

I have to check to see if I can use a companion certificate at that time. If I can, I will.

If not, I'll be there the week before

I was looking for a DO in CA around that time. I have to do a MR to maintain status.

Put me down as a definite maybe. Will arrive SFO the 11th anyway. Was thinking about some sort or MR from there but could probably work in both.

Also one of my favorite cities.

Please also put me down as maybe. It all depends on my work schedule.
I hope to be there at least one of the events.

Put me down as in. I probably won't be able to make all the events, but will definitely make the dinners.
