[RATE GONE] HERTZ CAR RENTAL LHR $3.10 per day

This is not a flight mistake of course, but I figured this might be a good place to post.

I just booked a compact car for 6 days rental in late July/early Aug for $3.10 per day base rate ($90 estimated total for 6 days) through Orbitz.com
Received confirmation number immediately.

This showed up on Expedia also but couldn't confirm.

Good luck!

Mods, please feel free to move if there is a better forum to post this..

It comes up at $3/day but only as a one-week rental, on compact Hertz cars--Manual, No Air Conditining! Yikes....Maybe it's not a mistake after all!!?
Interestingly, it's only $395 all-in for July 1st to August 31st. Cheaper than a lease.
All other rates are normal. Somebody missed a key when typing in this rate!

I thought every car has a/c? For $3 car who needs A/C!

All cars over here do have a/c - you just have to press the open window button!

Really though A/C seems to be a "luxury" extra when buying/renting a car, although most new cars do now have this as global warming makes the UK warmer. It isn't really needed though save for a few days in the summer - a good heater is more useful.

Wow, works for next week too. Looks like a Ford Ka or maybe Focus. Got it for Jun 8-15.

Also on expedia. Maybe this is not a mistake price (although it doesn't show up on hertz.com). There's also a 4-door, automatic, w/ AC for 14.09/day.

My guess is this should be a $13.10 per day base rate instead of the $3.10 loaded.

When I checked my reservation at Hertz.com using the conf# it came up as 'Fun Collection' VW Beatle for example. Might get a funky week!

Ivoryboi,
Thanks very much, I've just booked and I'm thrilled. The rate I got was $1.98 per day.

You can book this on hertz.com but you need to select the fun car collection to see these rates. At least one of the car types was booked out on the dates i tried but there were plently of other options...including convertibles.

Does anyone have any opinions on which would be the best place to book - hertz vs Orbitz?

Again thanks Ivoryboi!

This is certainly a mistake. I don't believe non-US locations offer the 'Fun Collection' which is what is being offered here. Not sure how Hertz will approach this..

Be sure you book for the exact pick up and return dates that you need. If you book for 7 days and return after 2 days, you will for sure be charged a higher rate. That is how car rental companies work. And if you change any part of the reservation (pick up or drop off date or time) after initial confirmation, your reservation will be repriced.

Don't forget about the fee to drive into central London, so a car rental is really only a good option if you want to drive outside of London.
