Leaked: AA expected to order 200+ planes in Paris
I was told this in January from a good source and was hesitant to believe. Now it apparently has been leaked. To summarize, at the Paris airplane show, AA is expected to:
*Order 100-125 787s plus 100 options
*Order 100 737 family aircraft plus unknown options
*Order an unknown number of 777 family aircraft
*AA's Tulsa base will be awarded the Goldcare contract for 787 maintence (this is huge alone)
Supposedly to be announced in Paris, which opens 18 June. When I first heard the rumour in January, I was told the 737 mix included 737-700ERs, which are capable of flying from Miami, Dallas, and Chicago to any city in Europe and South America.

I'm not holding my breathe just yet because it seems "too good to be true", but we'll see. I personally think we will see some 787 order from AA in Paris.
I personally am not going to side either way with believing this rumour. I of course hope it's true, but we'll have to wait until Paris.

I'm going to continue breathing for now, too. But if even half of it is correct, it will be fantastic news!

Fasten your seat belts, folks. I sense 12 pages of pure speculation coming.

I sense a 20 pager!
Anywhere from NewNEWGeneration Business seats on the Dreamliner to vending machines on the 777.
How can AA become a maintenance base for the 787 when they have not ordered any? Guess you can teach them how to fix it on someone elses plane!

The OP always has great information generally but I'm a little skeptical of this. Among other reasons, Boeing does not like to make sales announcements at the Paris airshow. A few years ago, they discovered they were giving too good of a deal to close transactions before the Paris airshow to beat the "Bus" and that it gave the airlines negotiating power. Now they let the "Bus" make their announcements which always seem less significant for various reasons, including the fact that Boeing doesn't respond.
Since the 717 is off the market, my personal preference would be 120 seat 737-600's which can handle transcon and beyond. The Mad Dog is the right size for many markets and they really need something between the 50 pax jungle jets and the 737-800. Of course, that might require pilot negotiations to be competitive with the rates being paid to the NWA pilots who are flying the smaller planes.
We'll see.

I have a hard time imagining Boeing and AA leveling this kind of a bomb on enemy (Airbus) soil at Le Bourget during the Paris Airshow, but I sure would not mind this caliber of announcement from AA if they decided to use Paris as a platform.

Incredible news...
This would be a HUGE coup for American since now they've gotten rid of those awful MD-80s - and you would see many people defecting (including myself) from United.
I fly 300,000+ a year and haven't flown American in five years.

I don't see AA with 777-300 ER. Is too big for the missions AA have. But in other hand the 777-200LR could be a excellent pick.

It's going to be many, many, many years before those "Awful MD80s" are gone from the fleet. AA has hundreds o replace (its in the 300 range IIRC)
