Samir wasn't sitting on an airplane for that picture, though. Was it Amtrak?

Great article. ^

I wish someone would give me $500 with the goal to get as many miles as possible.

just when i was about to enlist elitehelper's advice

this article runs.

great news for Viajero ^.

the timing kinda sucks for me 'cause last night i had decided to give his site a go today. oh well, since it looks like he'll have his hands full for the next ummm .... forever, i guess i'll continue to do my best to read, learn and practice my routing and fare spotting skills the hard (but fun) way.

otoh, i enjoyed the sudoku reference 'cause that's how i explain my new obsession to my friends. of course, i emphasize that imho MRs have way more benefits both in expended effort and end results wise.

The article mentioned a WAS-SFO run that netted 27000 miles for $113, which I assume was EQMs. Holy crap! How did that one work? And where do I sign up for that?!

the author IS a f/t lurker (and might be a member now). spoke with him at length as part of his research and he was actually doing a multi-multi-multi-city m/r to actually get a feel for it from the m/r'ers perspective.

One of the better overview articles about MRs that I've seen in mainstream reporting. Definitely heavy pluggage for FT and VJ, which could be good and/or bad, I suppose.

Of course, the reporter still has a lot to learn. But it doesn't make us all sound like "freaks" as one friend put it.

A shame that Randy's name is misspelled.

Looked more like the back of a bus in Thailand to me...he even seemed kind of drunk!

I'd rather the world at large think MRs are ridiculous and we are freaks. Just makes things better for us

Mileage Runner - a subculture of airlines hackers

a interesting difinition from an article titled "We Love to Fly and It Shows: Inside the World of Mileage Running". Other comments are: "Mileage runners are the high-tech nomadic wanderers of the air. Predominantly male, generally obsessed with flying and miles, and typically employed in white-collar careers that involve significant business travel, they scour the web for cheap flights, phoning in sick or using vacation days to fly the longest itineraries they can string together."
