Y fare with Chase 5% off? H is upgrade-elite?

I'm unsuccessfully trying to buy a one-way Y-fare ticket with the OnePass 5% off code. Even if I specify No Restrictions or "Y" class, the system still gives me H or K class (neither refundable) if I use the OnePass code.

I tried to select the flight w/o using the code, and was able to get a Y class seat. I then clicked on the button to apply the 5% discount. Now I'm looking at a purchase screen that has an H fare (non-refundable) but with the "Upgrade Elite Y fare" label?

Here's the screen image showing the H "upgrade elite" fare.

Sorry if has been discussed before; I tried to search and found nothing.

It might be a co.com glitch...put the reservation on hold, and call the elite line (if you're eligible) or the web help desk to ask them if your reservation is a Y fare, and if not, ask them to change and reprice it while keeping the chase discount

I'll try that. What's odd is that whenever I use the Onepass code, I don't see "Upgrade Elite" on any of the flights listed. It behaves as if one cannot get a Y-up using the Onepass code.

So I put the flight on hold. The confirmation screen "Your Reservation is Held" shows H class and "Upgrade Elite Y fare". The price is the H fare -5%. When I look at the reservation status page the Upgrade Elite disappears

Is it possible to use the 5% discount on Y fares if lower fare classes are available? I can't seem to figure it out.

I tried some other dates going somewhere else, and as long as put in ONEPASS, only the lowest fare comes out. Even if I specifically search for a particular fare class.

But it doesn't mean ONLY the cheapest fares show up. They may be other flights on the same result page that has higher fares - those show up too.

Don't know if it's a glitch or if it's supposed to work that way.

That's what I'm seeing; CO.com forces you to buy the cheapest fare class when using the OnePass code. Is this in the rules? I can't find such a rule anywhere.

I guess retaining the "Upgrade Elite" label when applying the discount to a Y fare (thus turning it into an H fare) is a bug.

YOu have to call tech support

This has happened to me twice, the last time yesterday. I wanted to by a Y fare for the Automatic upgrade. I could do the Y-up fare without putting in the ONEPASS code. Then, the screen would come up saying I could save 5% with my MC. When I hit that I got a U fare, non refunable and non upgradeable even though the elite upgrade was noted.

Tech support will make the booking and then deduct the 5% for using the MC. They had to do all that and then forced the upgrade. Its all paid for and is showing in my flight records. I did the seat assignments today.

Its annoying though that you have to go through this.

I thought you could get further in the reservation (to the point where you can do the Y-up) without having to actually buy the ticket.

You can't do the Y-UP until you purchase the ticket. Maybe you're thinking about AA, where if you're within the elite upgrade window and inventory is available, you can confirm the upgrade before continuing through to ticket purchase. But not on CO.

I've decided not to go, so I will not be calling in.

I'll link to this tread in the co.com bugs thread.

Here's the reply from CO.com support:

When I try to duplicate this issue, the system does not default the
class of service to H from Y using the offer code Onepass. The
reservation continues to book in a " Y " fare category. You may call us at the
number below for assistance.
Odd. Has anyone been able to book a higher-than-cheapest fare with the "Onepass" code?

It seems to be a recurring CO.com glitch. I purchase a full Y/AU fare about once a month with my CO MC and have to call CO.com each time to have the purchase processed correctly with an upgrade. Another glitch is using the MC to purchase any fare and use miles to upgrade at the same time. It too, can't be done online and requires a call to CO.com.
