12th Month Rolling Window

So I have been reading posts on this board and I want to make sure I understand something correctly. If you stay 10, 50, or 75 nights in a 12 month period whether that be March to March or January to January you get the appropriate level of status. Is that in fact true?

When does the next year flip? Can you go from Platinum one month to Gold the next month because of this?

Yes, Marriott will use a rolling 12-month period for purposes of achieving the next higher elite level. So your example of 10, 50 or 75 nights within any 12 month period is correct.

Note that Marriott uses this for raising your elite level only. Once you achieve that level, you must stay the appropriate number of nights within a calendar year to keep that level.

I may stand corrected on this, but I believe that you get the earned status through the next full year of the program, regardless of whether you earned it through the calendar year, or the rolling window.

hsh101 is correct.

In terms of achieving a higher elite level, it does not matter how the higher level was achieved (i.e. nights within calendar year or rolling calendar). When that acheivement is reached, the person will receive the elite level for the rest of the current year and all the following year.

You can achieve Gold or Platinum Elite status by staying 50 or 75 nights within a 12-month rolling calendar. To earn Silver Elite status however, one must have 10 nights within a calendar year.

So, if I achieved Silver this November, I only have it until the end of December 2007? Or do I have it until end of December 2008? If I want to maintain it past that, I would need 10 nights between 1 Jan 2008 and 31 December 2008, correct? Any nights in November and December 2007 would not count?

You would have Silver through 2/28/2009.

So if I earn gold status in Feb 08 - I would have gold until Feb of 2010 is that correct?

I would then need to requalify at gold with 50 nights from 1/1/09 through 12/31/09?

Correct. If you get the Premier card, you will get 15 elite nights credited to your account each year. That will drop your actual night requirement down to 35 nights for gold.

This rolling window must have hit me while I was sleeping. I went to bed Gold, and woke up Platinum.

Since I'm in the middle of a FI stay, I don't expect this to affect me at all for this stay.

For future reservations that I currently have, will the hotel automatically see my new status and hand me the cookies and water upon checkin? Or do I have to have Marriott "reset" my res like the airlines usually need to do upon promotion?

Your status will be updated throughout the system, and you will be noted as a platinum on your future reservations.

I just earned gold through the rolling 12 month window and when I log into my account it states that I now need to stay XX nights this year to maintain gold level and XX+25 to achieve platinum. So while I get the benefits of gold through 2/28/09 - beyond that I need to stay the appropriate number of nights within the year to earned the level of status.
