Windy City & 'Burbs DO I (March 18 '08) - Mongolian BBQ
The first Windy City & Burbs DO will be at Mongolian BBQ in Naperville, IL at 7pm (time can be changed if FTers cannot make it for some reason) on March 18th, 08.
It is a stir-fry restaurant, which I would consider the original one.

Dinner is affordable. $15 for all you can eat stir fry. They got a good salad bar and have soup also. Stir fry options include everything from chicken, beef, roast
beef, NY strip steak, lamb I believe, shrimp, squid, some varieties of fish, scallops, etc. If you are allergic, you can inform them and they will cook it in back (not on any peanut oil..) Soft drinks have free refills. There are also alcoholic drinks too.
Parking is easy. 2 free areas are covered, 1 is open. Should not be any problems.

How can that be? It was founded in 1992. I've been eating Mongolian BBQ for a lot longer than that, and even the person who founded it got the idea after visiting one in London. Even in this chain, there were several before they ever got to Illinois.

The perfect place but I'm not sure about the perfect time. I was going to take two old friends (from Geneva) out for dinner - they like to fly, but I'm not a sure a DO would be fair to them. I will just happen to be in Geneva that evening.

I love stir fry (you sure FlatTop in Evanston [their original, IIRC] is newer than 1992??), enough to find to a reason to be out West on 3/18, except that I'll be in RAP ('way west) all week.

That's actually a convenient location, and an excellent restaurant, but unfortunately I already have a meeting that night.
Addressing the other question, definitely not even close to the first Mongolian BBQ except perhaps in this area. Available on the west coast decades ago!
