Starting in April, American Airlines will no longer offer an online booking bonus for travel booked on AA.com. The current bonus will be honored for all bookings made on or before March 31, 2008, regardless of travel dates.

Yeah, it's been predicted here for a long time, and not surprising at all. Once they instituted the fee for not using the website, there was no reason to continue to offer additional incentive. Small miles- no big loss.

Ah, but there's a lot you can do on orbitz/expedia you can't do on aa.com like better integration of other carriers and getting around pesky married segments that aa.com doesn't price nicely...

250 doesn't look like a big loss, but if i remember that we once got 1000 - that's quite a loss overall, especially if you fly a lot on short-hauls (which I don't). Of course, it was sure to happen as internet becomes so common that it's normal .)

No surprise, IMO. They gave us the carrot (1,000 miles) and the stick ($15.) As we learned to avoid the stick they shrunk the carrot, and now have done away with it entirely. Great operant conditioning...

Oh well, I saw this coming eventually. AA keeps getting worse in my books, and I used to love them. They were my first airline *sigh*
The only thing keeping me with them is the low redemption amounts to Central America, Europe, and Asia, and the ease of getting award seats from Calgary.

Its not a huge deal in the grand scheme of things, but all of my trips are rather short
domestic flights so I will be sad to see the bonuses go even if it is just a couple hundred miles a trip.

Maybe I'm dense tonight, but does anyone else think that AA's inclusion of the 2nd paragaph in that link makes it a bit confusing? (Why the reference to 2006?)

They're just reminding you that they DO offer bonus miles currently (the new amount is 250 per econ R/T beginning Dec 2006), and you can get those until March 31,2008, after which they are discontinuing the bonus. Might as well drum up some business by getting people that weren't aware of the measely bonus to "panic" and quickly book their tickets before March 31.
