10% off Gift Cards - it's baaaaaaack!!

https://deltapromo.netlinkrg.com/

Plus a few DL bonus miles, but not enough to actually matter.

OK, I'm recently on record as saying "I'm not sure if a 10% off promo is enough to make me buy more of these." Right now, I'm not getting in on this one. Maybe if United sends me a similar promo, I'll bite. That would make it....uhhh...an 11% off promo. Sort of.

Like usual, you must buy in $1000 increments.

The T&C say that you can earn 2 miles per dollar if you have Delta selected as your earning preference but no mention of Marriott points. This means that you can still get normal Marriott points credit if you have that chosen as your earning preference, right?

Also - why isn't this a good promo? What would you hold out for?

Yes, you can earn Marriott points like usual. As we all know, that route is much better than 2 FF miles/$.

As for your second question, it's not that it's a bad promo - it's just that I'm a bit grumpy with Marriott gift cards right now. I'm burning through my last one from the Red Suitcase promotion and it seems like every check-out encounters hassles with the card. Clerks don't know how to process them - heck, sometimes clerks ask me how much money is on my card. (!)

Logically though, since my stays tend to be about $500 each (2-3 nights plus incidentals in a regular city hotel), this minor hassle should be worth $50 per stay, right? I know I'll eventually buy in, as Marriott isn't going to roll out 20% off or anything like that. 10%, plus a few miles, is a good promotion.

When buying the gift card is it processed as a Marriott transaction for 5X pts by Chase or a Delta transaction?

Is there an expiration or a date you need to use them before being hit with the fee?

I just purchased one as I need just under 1000 points to get to a 25000 point balance on Delta. Hopefully this shows as a Marriott charge to get an additional 4500 Marriott points.

From Terms
Card value does not expire. Card becomes inactive at the earlier of (a) the use of all value or (b) the posted renewal date. Upon request Marriott will replace card with a new card having an equivalent remaining value anytime after the posted renewal date.

There is an expiration date, but it really doesn't apply as you can renew the card.

The GCs I purchased netted me 5 points/$ spent when purchased using the Premier card. Of course, I purchased those GCs directly from Marriott's website, not the Delta promo website.

Everytime I used a gift card from the bonus point promotion last year, I was asked what the balance was. Kind of pathetic.
