LAX-HKG - - short lived

An email was sent out to flight attendants advising that LAX-HKG-LAX would be reduced to 4 times per week during the summer with the route being discontinued on 9/2/2008. Of course, the reason being the cost of fuel.

Stay tuned........

Sad, but not surprising. I knew grabbing that $500 fare LAX-HKG-LAX in February wasn't a good sign.

When is the start date of 4 times per week? What days will the flight operate?

I'm still mad that I didn't buy that $500 fare back then. Now when I ready to go, it's hard to find anything under 1K to HKG on any airline.

Oh well, at least they gave it a shot. There was no way they could compete against Cathay 3x daily at $130 a barrel.

Wow, I have 3 flights on that routing all booked after 9/2. This is going to be fun what happens with my upgrades.

Bring back the 2nd ORD-HKG flight then. I like the LAX-HKG flight as it is the one I have remote chance to get upgrade.

Well they use a 747 on this route...or do you mean it will free it up to swap with a 777 for something else?

Sad to see this...I flew it back in December and it was a great flight with good crews!

Yeah... that's what I meant. Now they have a 747 to swap with a 777.

Wonderful. We've got this one in December. At least with DEQM, those miles won't make or break 1K for us any more.

BTW, the 1K line has not heard anything about this.

I knew something was up when I was checking upgrades for next February and March and it all showed NC0 or NC1 when no seats were booked. I have confirmed upgrades on this route in July and November so I hope UA will preserve my upgrades on SFO-HKG,

I have confirmed upgrade on HKG-LAX in October. I guess we're in the same boat ...
