Welcome CO to the *A DO - Newark, NJ - Summer '08

** UPDATED ON 7/28 WITH FINAL PLANS **

Come to the Welcome CO DO. It's for us beleaguered NYC based US and UA flier whose lives will now improve due to this announcement. All our welcome.

Final date is Saturday, August 2, 2008 at 5 pm.

Location:
Newark, NJ - our new partner's proud hub's hosting city

Specific location:
Mompou Tapas, Wine Bar, and Lounge
77 Ferry Street, Newark, NJ 07105

The informal gathering is at Mompou. It's a great bar/restaurant and a very easy walk from Newark Penn Station.

I've scheduled this early in hopes that you will all come, enjoy some drinks and conversation for an hour or two, and then venture out to dinner at one of Newark's fine restaurants. Mompou is located in the Ironbound district and an easy walk from Downtown. Here are some of my favorite restaurant options (all within walking distance) to help you with your plans:

Hell's Kitchen Lounge (funky, retro, tiki)
Iberia (classic Spanish)
27 Mix (trendy, bistro, further walk)
Sagres (bar, grill, spanish influence)
Adega (fine dining)
Fornos of Spain (fine dining)
Spain Restaurant & Grill (classic Spanish)
Brasilia Grill (good salad bar, amazing rodizio)

The bar opens at Mompou opens at 5 pm, but feel free to come early and wander around downtown Newark and/or the Ironbound or stay late and see a show. If you want to spend the day there prior to the DO or go out afterwards, may I recommend:

The Newark Museum
Aljira Contemporary Arts Gallery
Shop and stroll the Ironbound
See a show at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (there is an 8 pm performance of a new musical)

So that's it! Right now this is a pretty informal drinks gathering, but feel free to send suggestions if you'd like to add some "official" before (daytime) or after (dinner) events.

GUESTS (updated!):

See you in Newark:

You do know that CO will be replacing US in the alliance? (If not sooner, then later)

[QUOTE=Jumpgate;9906975]Alright - Lets see if this can get some traction.

I propose a DO this summer mostly targeted at US and UA NYC-based fliers who are finally going to get ahead in life thanks to this wonderful announcement.

Sure... why not. Can we schedule it for a time when the yanks are in town?

Oh, the DO could continue on at Stan's! We can do one night in EWR and the other in the Bronx!

CO is the official carrier of the NY Yankees! So there is a tie-in! ^

Great response!

How about this:

Weekend of August 2.

Saturday evening DO in Newark, NJ

There is a mid-day Yankees game on Sunday and an evening game the day before (Friday). Both against the Angels. So it fits in nicely between the two!
