Exclamation Surprised that no one has ever sued Delta for misleading advertising with "free" tix

So with all the advertising over the years by Delta and other airlines plus all their partners about "free" tickets but they still charge money (taxes, booking fees, now fuel surcharges)....why doesn't some law firm sue for misleading advertising. Or the BBB or Attorny General take actions...

TCF Bank in Minnesota talked about all the Totally Free checking for years but finally someone challenged them about the hidden fees....the bank was basically forced to make it "totally free" as advertised....

Well,
the fine print stated for years that the passenger is still required to pay the usual taxes/fees ( government & airport related ) and for many years some of these fees have not even beeing charged. I have paid an average of ~$ 50 for TATL BE award tickets for years. I still considered these tickets "free" as none of those charges were kept by the airline. That changed just recently.

Programs: Now just a lowly DL PM/1MM. This industry needs some competition. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

Agreed, this "let's sue everyone and everything" mentality in this country is getting a little old. And I'm sure some huckster has probably tried to sue them and had the case tossed, rightfully so.

Give them a break. All airlines are under tremendous pressure right now. Is this really worth worrying about?

Why don't you do it..... Go see lawyers, be the lead case in a class action, get your 15 minutes, make lawyers rich....

Or do you just want to complain?

In our current liberal court system, who knows. It only goes to show however, those who said "Burn your miles" several years ago was true to their point. Miles are devalued, free trips aren't - the line has to be drawn somewhere. The a/l shouldn't be able to "collect" on a FF ticket in advance and the devalue it with new charges that were not in effect at the time.

If you are so PO'd about it, then as others have said, sue them yourself. Otherwise please move on, as the whining does nothing.

There is a difference between the government mandated taxes, and these barbaric fuel surcharges that DL charges for EU issued tickets. If you think the new $25/$50 fuel surcharge fee is going to stay static, then I have a bridge I'd like to sell you.

"I never promised you a rose garden......"

Get a grip, life was good while it lasted. $50 plus fess and taxes for a $3000-$5000 TALT Biz Class ticket is still OK by me. If it goes to $200 in the USA, there will be another outpouring of "Oh woe is me" but its still a bargain.

Jeez, back when I started flying in Ford Tri Motors there were no FF Programs.

Cheers

What JC says here. There's all kinds of free stuff - sweepstakes, etc - where you have to pay government-specified taxes, and you can't very well sue a business for charging you fees and taxes that are required by the government.

Pitching something as "free plus government fees and taxes" and then saying "oh, by the way, that free ticket plus $120 in fees and taxes is now also plus a $200 charge imposed by the airline" is a lot less defensible.

I would have to assume that DL has lawyers at their disposal. They probably have a corporate counsel. They surely have external legal firms that they deal with regularly. If this were such a legal hot button, I'm sure they ran it by them.

But, hey, go ahead and sue. Have fun. I'm eager to see how it turns out for you.
