Delta to Offer Inflight Internet/Wi-Fi Service on Entire Fleet via Gogo

To be announced tomorrow, Tuesday August 5th according to Scott McCartney's Middle Seat Column in the Wall Street Journal (Subscription required), Delta and Gogo will announce that Delta, using Gogo's internet Wi-FI technology will offer inflight Wi-Fi access throughout its entire domestic fleet. This starts on 75 MD 80s later this fall and will end when the entire domestic fleet of 300+ aircraft are fitted by next summer.

This is the same service AA is using and recently conducted tests on. See discussion in the AA forum. You can jump to the discussion about Gogo here. Like AA, DL and GoGo will prohibit voice calls using VoIP technoliogy.

More information on Gogo itself is located here. They have taken down the registration part. I'm not sure if you signed up during the AA test, the information is still there.

THanks for the heads-up!

From the article:

"...The service will be priced similar to wireless connections at high-end hotels -- $9.95 for flights under three hours and $12.95 for a longer itinerary -".

Seems relatively reasonable...hope it works better than the DishTV nightmare...

Since DL is putting these on the MDs, that's another indication they'll be sticking around for quite some time. I'm glad the system is blocking voice calls.

What about international aircraft by 763ER? One more things what about entire 757 aircraft will able installed the wireless internet, too. Should I needs to pay for it?

Its based on radio towers so I dont think international is possible at the moment. At least not over water..

Nope. Only mainline at this point.

Official news release only mentions MD88/MD90, 737, 757, and 763:

Its based on radio towers so I dont think international is possible at the moment unless they go sat. based. At least not over water..

Programs: Now just a lowly DL PM/1MM. This industry needs some competition. It's just not enjoyable anymore.

Agreed. From the website issues to the DirectTV/IFE troubles, DL really shouldn't offer another "product" that won't work half the time. I can see the FAs having to "reboot" the router 5 times during a flight to try to make it work...
