OH MY GOD !!! Jamon Iberico de Bellota !!!

^^^^^

All I have got to say is WOW !!!

I just tasted ONE slice and ended up buying 1/2 a pound at $185/lb. This stuff just melts in your mouth and you cannot stop eating.

Is there anyplace online that sells it cheaper? Just a bit?

The place I bought it will ship but shipping is extra.

thanks

Uh...where did you find it? I make a special pilgrimage to La Grande Epicerie at Bon Marche every time I'm in Paris to spend a day's salary on the stuff.

This is a little different but you might give it a try. It is also cheaper than the Spanish variety and I think very similar to the Spanish version. I like it better than regular proscuitto as well. The first time I had the Spanish variety was in a restaurant in Barcelona. Our host said, "this is like proscuitto but it is Spanish and it is better". My initial skepticism was quickly overwhelmed by the jamon.

Iberia does serve some "pata negra" on long haul

please do not compare to regular ham, once you taste it you will see the difference and realize that the regular ham or prosciutto or jambon de bayonne it is only good for sandwich hehehehe

some information here http://jamondepatanegra.com/tienda/i...hp?language=en

please tell everyone that pata negra it is not good hahahahaha it will become more expensive

I have had both in Spain and in restaurants in NY, which is why I compared the French and Spanish versions and suggested to the OP that they do the same. The suggestion was particularly useful I thought since there seems to be about a $340 per pound difference in the price based on what the OP said. Is the Spanish version a better? Perhaps. Is it 12 or 14 times better? Not even close in my opinion.

You'll all be better off unfocusing on the words 'pata negra'.

The stuff you're discussing is called Jamon Iberico de Bellota (Acorn fed Iberico ham).

Jamon Iberico comes in different grades, the best grade comes from pigs fed exclusively on acorns.

Not all of this breed have black feet, it's a confusing misnomer. And yes, I know the Spanish use it, made it confusing for me too initially.

$400 per kilo???
You can buy a whole leg of jamon serrano (matured for at least 6 months) for about 80 Euros in Spain. Not sure whether it's got black feet or eats acorns, but it's great stuff.
If you like it so much, you may want to do a couple of MRs.
I like it, but I like almost all kinds of cooked meat so I won't search high and low to find it.
