Fare Alert: RTW tickets ex-KEF

I just wanted to give you guys a heads-up on this remarkable deal!

The Icelandic Krona (ISK) is in free-fall at the moment and if you're quick you can get extremely cheap RTW tickets ex-KEF (tickets starts in Reykjavik / Keflavik Iceland):

YRWSPCL: 185.600 ISK = 7.720 SEK (17.720 SEK ex-ARN)
Economy 26.000 miles / 5 stops

YRWSTAR1: 222.800 ISK = 9.268 SEK (21.360 SEK ex-ARN)
Economy 29.000 miles / 16 stops

CRWSTAR1: 501.200 ISK = 20.849 SEK (47.370 SEK ex-ARN)
Business 29.000 miles / 16 stops

FRWSTAR1: 889.400 ISK = 36.998 SEK (94.430 SEK ex-ARN)
First 29.000 miles / 16 stops

Notice: Read more about ISK exchange rates below - to be able to secure these prices you actually have to exchange your cash to ISK and pay the tickets physically in Iceland.

Ticket prices ex-KEF are pretty cheap anyway if you ticket them in your home country. A comparison of RTW prices ex-KEF and ex-ARN in Swedish Krona (SEK):

RTW Prices ex-ARN

Very tempting. Do you have prices incl. tax? (I know this of course depends on the routing and carrier choosen)

This is totally dependent on the routing selected as every airport and country has its own taxes and calculations. We paid about 3750 SEK in taxes on a 14-stop RTW plus 500 SEK booking fee to SAS.

Yes - you're right. I am a bit excited so I forgot that they changed it from 24 to 16. It's still pretty difficult to use all 16 segments

The key factor is the exchange rate applied. ISK has dropped a lot during the last days, but if it rises again until ticketing date, this deal can significantly change. I would also like to hear if someone has succesfully booked before I even consider doing it myself.

SAS are ticketing my bookings as we speak. I'll get back to you as soon as it's ready.

I went crazy and booked a FRWSTAR1. And a CRWSTAR2. And two CRWSTAR3's ^

SAS just got back to me:
  • It seems like I have to make the booking on SAS Iceland because SAS Sweden must ticket in SEK (Even though they just told me earlier that this was possible?)
  • Rerouting before 1st intercontinental leg means that the whole trip is re-calculated
  • Re-routing after 1st intercontinental leg does not mean re-calculation of whole journey
  • SAS ticket the journey about 1 week before first leg to get current pricing, which is not good in this offer

This means a bit more work for me!

The key here is the exchange rate. What rate do they use? Do they charge you in ISK? Is it certain that the rate will be what you think it it or can it change between now and ticketing?

CAUTION!

A lot of the information above is incorrect (at least as of today, 14OCT2008).

If you purchase a ticket from Iceland outside of Iceland, the amount will be converted to the currency of the country where the ticket is being issued based on the official IATA rate of exchange.

The ROE for today, 14OCT2008 is:

0.006665 EUR per ISK / 154.27 ISK per EUR
0.008892 USD per ISK / 113.49 ISK per USD

The information given by the original poster does not reflect the exchange rates in effect by the IATA. It would only apply if you can manage to exchange cold hard cash at such a low exchange rate + physically ticket and pay for the ticket in Iceland.

Also, many credit card companies have posted exchange rates similar to the IATA exchange rates on their websites, so do not count on getting any particular exchange rate if paying by CC directly in Iceland. You could be in for a big surprise...
